CHAPTER 4: The Rejection

740 Words
Precious’s POV The sun broke over the trees, casting a harsh, golden light over the courtyard. I knelt in the dirt, my back straight. I refused to cry anymore. If they were going to destroy me, I would not give them the satisfaction of my tears. I stared directly into Alpha Praise’s eyes as he stepped down from his throne and walked toward me. The courtyard was dead silent. The only sound was the rustling of the wind through the tall pines. Praise stopped a few feet away from me. His eyes were cold, devoid of the warmth he used to show me when we were just children playing in the woods. "Precious," he said, using his Alpha aura. The heavy, suffocating pressure of his command pushed down on my shoulders, forcing my wolf into submission. I gritted my teeth, fighting the urge to bow my head. "For your crimes against the future Luna, and for your betrayal of this pack, I pass my judgment," Praise announced loudly. He took a deep breath. "I, Alpha Praise of the Silver Moon Pack, officially strip you of your rank. I strip you of your surname. And from this day forward... I reject you from my pack." Snap. It felt like a physical chain being violently ripped from my chest. I gasped, clutching my heart as agonizing pain tore through my body. The pack bond, the magical tether that connected me to my home, my family, and my Alpha was shattered. My inner wolf howled in pure, unadulterated agony, curling up into a ball inside my mind to die. I fell forward, coughing violently as blood trickled from my nose. The pain of a forced rejection was known to drive wolves insane. It felt like half of my soul had just been amputated without anesthesia. "Get her out of my sight," Praise commanded, turning his back on me. Two warriors grabbed me by the arms, dragging me forcefully toward the pack borders. The crowd didn't hold back anymore. "Traitor!" "Rot in the wild!" Small rocks and clumps of dirt hit my back and my legs. I kept my eyes fixed forward. I didn't look at my mother. I didn't look at Grace. I had lost everything. My home, my family, my wolf's strength. I was nothing now. They dragged me to the edge of the dark forest and threw me into the mud. "If you cross this border again, rogue, we will kill you on sight," the warrior spat, turning around and walking back to the cheers of the pack. I lay in the mud for a long time, letting the cold seep into my bones. That evening, as I stumbled blindly through the wild forest, the sky above my former home began to change. It was the night of the Blood Moon Festival, the most sacred night for the Silver Moon Pack. It was the night the Moon Goddess was supposed to bless the new Alpha and Luna with silver light, promising prosperity and fertility for the land. But as the moon rose, something was wrong. In the pack house, Elder Marcus and the oldest pack healer stood on the balcony, watching the sky. The moon did not turn silver. It turned a dark, sickly shade of rust. Heavy, black clouds aggressively swallowed the sky, plunging the kingdom into pitch darkness. The sacred blessing never appeared. The moon remained hidden. The pack members murmured in fear, looking up at the sky in confusion. Praise tried to dismiss it, calling for the music to play louder, but the tension was thick. The oldest healer, her blind eyes wide with terror, clutched Elder Marcus’s arm. "This has never happened before," the healer whispered, her voice shaking violently. "The Goddess has hidden her face from us." "It is just a storm," Praise snapped from nearby. "No," the healer whispered, a tear escaping her milky eye. "The Moon Goddess might be angry with this kingdom." Grace’s POV I stood in the shadows of the ballroom, away from the panicked murmurs of the pack. The hooded man was waiting by the pillar. "The moon did not bless us," I whispered to him, feeling a sudden prick of genuine fear. "What does it mean?" The hooded man looked up at the dark, storming sky. His amber eyes glowed fiercely. "It means," he said softly, a wicked grin spreading across his hidden face, "that this is only the beginning."
