The wind whipped through Charlie’s fur, her paws thudding across the ground at speeds which would make her appear as an auburn blur to anyone who she happened to pass. She didn’t have the time to enjoy the rush, not when she was being chased. Adrenaline pumped through her veins, her heart racing as fast as her paws, thrusting her forward through the undergrowth. Her hackles were up, each hair prickling with the looming danger gaining on her.
A trickle of water drew her attention and she immediately changed direction and headed straight for it. It was the barest of sounds, but her heightened senses were alert, taking in everything to give her any advantage against her pursuer.
