The else eke do went by retry fast and before you know it, it was Monday. The worst day of the week. Everyone hates Mondays and I am not an exception. I woke up quite early and before the alarm I had set started ringing out. I was proud of myself. I went to the mirror and started my daily affirmation, one of the best habits that had helped me build up myself.
I check the time on my phone and realize I’m going to be late if I keep sulking and laying around. I jump out of bed and freshen up. The only delay for me would be my outfit. I didn’t take them out yesterday. As I run my temples between my finders, I try to come up an idea of what to wear.
My floral print dress saved the hair, paired my all time favorite leather boots and a jacket. As I’m dressing up, my mind starts imagining how various eyes will be placed on me while I walk through the hallway figuring my left and right. Times like this, I wish I had a sibling. At least we would be figuring it out together.
“Iris! You’re going to be late for school if you don’t start heading out now! There’s breakfast on the table.” my dad shouting, jolting me out of my thoughts. I was already fat gone. As I enter the kitchen downstairs, he welcomes me with a peck on my forehead while I greet him. “Good morning dad, I’m already dressed and ready. I’m keeping to time now.” I said with a grin on my face.
Nana was seated on the couch in the living room watching her favorite opera so she didn’t even notice my presence. I greeted her and sat beside her while finishing up breakfast. I was careful not to let the ketchup stain my dress. It was my first day and there would be no time to go change up. I didn’t want to be labeled as the girl who still ate like a baby.
“I’m leaving now. Bye Nana!Bye Dad!” I greet them as I step out of the house and start walking down the street to meet up with the school boys. According to what Nana told me, the school bus picked up its students from the bus stop what happened was about 10 minutes from the house. That wasn’t a long walk and the fresh air wasn’t something I could resist.
I started down the lonely road surrounded with forests. The bushes were dense but they had paved way to a wide walkway. This walkway would be nice for a long run, if only I was the keep fit type. As I walked slowly down the path trying to catch my breath, I plugged in my pods. The perfect time to have a companion, music.
I showcased different styles of dancing while I was walking alone, to shake off the fear that had started to develop in me. I come to a halt when I see a shadow behind me and I am certain it isn’t mine. Stuck between whether I should turn or not, I finally give in to curiosity and turn very slowly to behold the figure behind me. Turning my head in the slowest of paces, my eyes widen as I see a giant black wolf behind me. If I was in some sort of horror movie, I needed to wake up quick or I was going to wet my pants. Sweat started forming in my palms as I scared, frightened and also excited to behold such creature. All these emotions were building up inside me. It was fascinating. These were creatures I had only seen in movies, but one was right in front of me.
I tried my best to inhale and exhale as I started breathing so fast. A gasp escaped my lips and I started moving a few steps backward. In a split second, I notice the eyes.. the same of set of eyes that met mine a few days back. The eyes I saw that day, were that of a wolf? With the level of curiosity in me heightening, I stepped forward to approach the animal. It growls loudly as I take a step forward. I halt and stop moving. I slowly bow down to meet the wolf, holding out my hand when our eyes met and I notice it bows down to my next movement. I unconsciously take another step closer to it and gently guide my hand towards its fur. It’s fur is so soft and fluffy, like that of a plush pillow.
The wolf starts to growl again but stops midway when I pat its neck gently. The eyes seem to lighten up and it wags it’s tail. I let out a silent chuckle and keep patting it and caressing it’s fur.. I glance at my watch to see if I still have a few more minutes to spare. Shoot! I have only five minutes to get to the bus stop.. My outburst startled the animal as I retract my hand. I look back at the wolf and I see pain it’s eyes. That was one gift I had, I could understand people’s eyes and the emotions behind them.
Before I start my sprint to the bus stop, I bend and give a gentle kiss to the wolf on its fur. Maybe that would help it reduce the pain. As expected, it seemed relaxed after that. “I’ve got to go my wolf friend. I’ll be late for school if I keep staying here.” I said to the wolf hoping it could hear and understand me.
On getting to the bust stop, the school bus pulled up. Phew! I was right on time. I got in while being scrutinized with different pairs of eyes.. Some say in pairs, some on their own, but they were all busy with one thing or the other.
Luckily for me, I was able to find an empty seat by the window and I sunk in, dropping my bag on my laps. I checked once again to make sure I had packed my essentials. The journey to school was quite fast and I scanned through the various buildings in Masetown with my eyes. Before I could even blink, we had gotten to Darson High.
