The First Enemy
Silver Fang Pack
Three days later.
Damien Storm couldn't sleep.
He stood alone on the balcony of the Alpha House.
Rain poured from the sky.
The same rain that had fallen the night Isabella left.
For some reason he couldn't stop thinking about her.
He should be relieved.
The political alliance with Sophia's family was secure.
The council supported him.
Everything had gone according to plan.
Then why did he feel like he'd lost something irreplaceable?
A knock interrupted his thoughts.
Sophia entered.
Smiling.
Always smiling.
"You're thinking about her again."
Damien frowned.
"No."
The lie came too quickly.
Sophia noticed.
Her smile tightened.
Dangerous.
Possessive.
"You made the right choice."
Did he?
The question appeared before he could stop it.
Sophia stepped closer.
"You need me."
Damien didn't answer.
Outside, thunder shook the sky.
And for a brief moment, a strange feeling settled over him.
Fear.
Not for himself.
For Isabella.
As though something enormous had awakened.
Something that would eventually return.
And when it did...
Nothing would ever be the same again.
Far beyond Silver Fang territory, Isabella stood atop the mountain beside Lucian Nightshade.
The wind whipped through her hair.
The moon illuminated the world below.
For the first time since her rejection, she felt something other than pain.
Purpose.
Power.
Possibility.
Lucian stood beside her.
Silent.
Watching.
Guarding.
As though he had waited centuries for this moment.
And perhaps he had.
"Tell me everything," Isabella said.
The Lycan King smiled.
A slow, dangerous smile.
"The story begins with a massacre."
Far below the mountain, hidden in the shadows, a pair of crimson eyes watched them.
Patient.
Hungry.
Murderous.
The hunt for the last royal heir had officially begun.
And blood would soon follow.
