Lost in the Winds

Prologue

"Ma'am, there's a call from you." I heard my assistant knocking on my office door.

I massaged the bridge of my nose and leaned on my swiveling chair thinking if am I gonna answer the phone or just ignore it. It's probably those ugly rats who keeps complaining about our products, so annoying.

"It's probably not important, just tell them I'm busy-" My heart dropped, my eyes widened and I began to feel excited and scared at the same time.

"It's from the Xiao family, Ma'am. They're inviting you to attend their reunion party since the LaFaucé family is associated with them." She said with a shaky voice, probably scared for cutting me off mid sentence.

After hearing that shocking news, I didn't hear what she said after. I opened the door in a hurry and nodded at her, giving her the sign to leave.

I kept my class as I walk towards the elevator when I saw some staff laughing and talking to each other.

They went quiet when I joined them on the elevator. I kept saying to myself to not to lose my calmness and elegance. I'm sweating cars already 'cuz my insides were excited as well.

"G-goodmorning Ma'am Vera" they all said in sync while stuttering. I glanced at them and left the elevator when it was on my floor already.

I wore my Chanel shades and proceeded to walk towards the exit. My Dior J'a slingback brown pump made noises as I walk making the employees' heads turn my way.

They greeted me with full of energy but I didn't took a glance at them. I went to the parking lot and opened my car, since it was on the VIP's parking space, it didn't take me a whole minute to lookfor my car.

"There's no f*****g way he's there. It's not like I wanted to see him or anything, right Vera?" I talked to myself like an i***t while gripping hard on my steering wheel.

I let out a heavy sigh and stepped on the gas.

"You looked stressed, dear." My Mom. I arrived to our house, she's outside watering her precious plants. She probably loves her plants more than her own daughter.

I kissed her on the cheeks and didn't say a word. When I closed the front door, I ran upstairs, towards my room and threw my pumps on the sides. I jumped on my bed and looked at the ceiling, I don't know what to feel.

All those things that happened before keeps hunting me as I stare into the ceiling. My emotions were messed up, I can hear myself crying and shouting. I don't want to remember it.

"Oh s**t, I have nothing to wear" I whispered to myself biting my lips and staring into a blank ceiling, feeling worried.

I wanna look perfect, it's been so long since I last seen... him. It's been 6 years, and I'm still the same Veronica Zel LaFaucé who's excited to see him. I hated me for being like that, I hated myself back then for torturing me.

I immediately called my assistant, Janna, to buy me a black backless long satin dress and a silver Chanel handbag for me to wear this coming reunion party.

She also mentioned that the date of the event is gonna be on Saturday, 9:00 pm. It was going to be a fancy dinner party, all the famous members and the VIPs of the Xi, LaFaucé, Cua and Lim Family were going to be present there.

I'm the only daughter of West LaFaucé, the chairman of the LaFaucé family. I'm a CEO of one of the companies owned by my Father. I've never wanted this in the first place, but I don't want to disappoint him, I had no choice but to take this responsibility.

I closed my eyes and took my phone. I went downstairs to the kitchen to my eat lunch. I held my phone and looked at my contacts, I don't if I should call her or not, she's probably busy right now.

Our Yaya placed the foods I asked her to cook infront of me. I took a lot and ate it, it was non stop. While eating, I decided to call her, I probably can't live without my bestfriend.

"Hey bae, let me guess, you're stressed right now, right?" My bestfriend said without even knowing why I called. She's right, she knows me too well. I never call her during my lunch break unless I'm having a problem or I'm too stressed.

"Don't worry, I got you." She let out a small giggle. "Meet me at Starbucks, I wanna try this new combo of drink" After saying that, she hung up.

A small smile plastered on my face. I'm so lucky to have her, she's been with me through my tough times, she's a keeper.

"I didn't even get to finish my lunch yet, atat na atat ka na naman" I sat on the vacant chair across her.

"Finish your lunch nalang here babe, and I thought ba na you're on a diet? Bakit parang nakulangan ka pa sa kinain mo" She laughed and sliced the bread she ordered and took a small portion to eat.

"I am. Actually it's because of the new I've found out." She looks worried and confused at the same time

"I'm invited to a reunion party-" She gasped while holding my hand. I stopped taking, I thought she was choking.

"Of course, silly me!" she said. I gave her a confused look, tilting my head to the side.

"My Family's invited too! I wasn't gonna tell you, I thought you weren't gonna even bother going to that party, and he's probably going to be there." She went from high pitched voice to a whisper.

It didn't shock me, it's expected that her family's invited, they're well known, her family background isn't a joke.

I let out a heavy sigh, with one night, I can see him again. I wanna ask him, "why?".

"Yeah, the chances of him being there isn't impossible. I don't think I can even look at him" I smiled sadly at her.

Her brows were down, I know she feels bad for me. She held my hand and caressed it.

"You don't have to go, Vera." She's worried.

I felt safe with her, but I had to. Even if I refuse, my Dad would force me. I can't afford him getting mad at me. I'm always the "perfect" daughter in everyone's eyes, I can't let them down, I can't afford them being disappointed at me.

I smiled sadly while removing her hand, she knows what I mean. I just can't.

"Don't worry, I'm gonna be there with you. I swear to god, I'm gonna punch that guy's face when I see him" She aggressively said which made me laugh.

A genuine and happy smile plastered on my face, and I looked away. I was feeling kind of hungry so I went to the counter to order food.

I pointed the counter using my head, letting her know I'm going to go order.

She rolled her eyes.

"Diet my ass" She whispered. I heard her, making me laugh more.

After ordering, I payed for my order, but instead of going back to the table. My eyes were drawn to the cakes displayed. My favorite red velvet cake!

When my Grandma was still alive, she used to bake me red velvet cake whenever I ask her to. I've always been a Grandma's girl, so seeing a red velvet cake reminds me of her.

I bought one slice of cake for me to eat later at home. I was going back to our table when the glass entrance door opened.

I saw an unexpected person, it was him. He opened the door and our eyes met, our eyes were locked into each other.

I started to breath heavily.

My emotions were crazy, I didn't know how to feel.

He looks so different now, he doesn't look like the guy I loved so much back then. he looks likea completely different person.

All the memories came back. I was frozen there,

staring at his eyes,

remembering the look of his eyes when they were mine.

I can see in his eyes,

he didn't expect me to to be there,

in front of him,

with sad eyes ,

looking at him... again.
