Number Six

Chapter 3 “Number Six” POV Cassy Josh places me on the bed, locks the door, and falls asleep. I get to sleep next to a handsome man in a dream bed. I’ve died and gone to heaven. Cush purrs in my head. I hear banging on the door in the middle of the night. “Give me back Number Six now!” Sebastian yells, probably waking the entire palace. “You told Dad you didn’t want them anymore. She’s mine now.” I hear loud thumping, then the door falls off its hinges, and Sebastian’s eyes are black. I’ve never seen them black before. Are these his wolf’s eyes? ‘Yes,’ Cush says. Sebastian walks over, plops me over his shoulder, and locks me in his bedroom. He tucks me in like I’m five, gives me a gentle kiss on the cheek that makes my heart flutter, and I forget how to breathe. Then, he heads to the other side of the bed and falls asleep like nothing happened. I wake up to Sebastian tapping me on the shoulder. “What are you doing in my bed?” he growls. ‘The hot ones are always crazy,’ Cush says. I use the bed like a trampoline, bounce off the edge near the door, unlock it, and bolt out of there like I’m on fire. The kiss on the cheek haunts my fantasies all day, but I think I’m safer with the less crazy brother. I start to head back to Josh’s room when I hear a voice behind me. “Go join the other girls downstairs,” Sebastian snaps. His eyes are blue. I know it’s him this time. I find the girls in the kitchen eating breakfast with Ethan. Sebastian stomps in. “I found this one in my bed last night. Keep a better eye on them.” The girl’s glare at me like I’m actually brave enough to crawl into that nut job’s bed. Josh comes in halfway through breakfast. “You said I could have Cassy,” Josh grumbles. “I did go ahead and take her,” Ethan says. “Sebastian broke my bedroom door and took Cassy last night.” “He what?” Ethan looks between me and Josh. I shrug my shoulders while Josh pouts. “Cassy, do you want to go with Josh?” Ethan asks. I smile, “yes.” ‘Yay and boo!’ Cush says in my head. “Feel free to take her.” Ethan continues reading his paper. Josh puts out his hand, and he takes me to town. He lets me buy whatever I want for clothes and takes me out for a lovely candlelight dinner I don’t say much. He seems to like me that way. ‘You got me to talk to,’ Cush teases. When Josh helps me put on my new fancy jacket, he sneaks a quick kiss. My whole face lights up. It’s my very first kiss. Cush does a dance in my head. When we get back, Josh sets up a chessboard, and we play for hours. Best night of my life. ‘Our lives,’ Cush says. I could do this forever. We grab a late night snack, and we head to his room. I fall asleep quickly in my dream bed. It’s like a soft cloud. Once again we’re woken up by banging on the door. I hide under the bed. Sebastian breaks the door down, pulls me out from under the bed like a scene from a horror movie, plops me on his shoulder, and takes me back to his room. Cush does nothing to help me. She can’t decide which one she likes more. This time I crawl out of bed and lock myself in his bathroom. I wake up to him banging on the bathroom door. “Who’s in there?” He says. I don’t answer. Sebastian screams so loudly his parents come in. “Who’s in there?” Ethan asks. I come out and glare at Sebastian. “Sebastian took me from Josh again,” I growl. “I did not! You’re a liar.” Sebastian yells back. I slam the door and lock it again. I hear Josh coming in. “Josh, how did Cassy get in here?” Ethan asks. “Sebastian took her again,” he grumbles. I peek out of the bathroom and hide behind Josh. Sebastian growls at him. “I told you to stay away from her!” Sebastian’s eyes turn black, and he chases after Josh down the hallway. “Why don’t you go join the girls for breakfast, Cassy?” The Queen Mother says. I head to the kitchen and let the food melt in my mouth, while gobbling down a ton of coffee to my heart’s content. “Ew, you’re gross. Eat like a lady,” Amber grumbles, scrunching up her face. I start eating with my mouth open until all the girls leave. I hear someone calling my name from the back door. It’s an out of breath Josh. He puts out his hand, and I grab it, and he takes me to his car. We head to town, wandering around the zoo. Cush loves the zoo. We stop by his friends then have a nice dinner. We stay at a fancy hotel, hoping to get one night off from Sebastian. Sure enough, just after midnight, the thumping begins on the door. I hide in the bathroom, but Sebastian breaks down the door and the bathroom door too. He plops me on his shoulder and takes me to his jeep, drives back to the palace, and carries me past his very surprised parents having a nightcap. I just wave. This time I hide under the bed. ‘You dumbo! Go sleep in his bed so we can smell him,’ Cush pouts. Sebastian wakes me up in the morning. “I can smell you! Why do you smell like my brother?” “Because you stole me from our hotel, you psychopath.” “I did not!” Sebastian says. “Really, then how did I get in your locked room?” “I liked it better when you didn’t talk.” “Well, stop snatching me from your brother and we won’t have the problem,” I hiss. He pulls me out from under the bed by my feet and lets me out of the room, but not before brushing his lips across my cheek. Cush purrs in my head. “Wait! Did you sleep with Josh?” Sebastian asks.
