Chapter-4:Succumbing-To-Death

Zephyr stared at him, unable to form words. His dark aura almost consumed her, and she was scared, scared for her own life. She hadn’t known it was his cub, the little thing was hurt, and she had just wanted to help. Zephyr looked at the helpless cub in her arms. She shouldn’t be sharing the same space with the Alpha. She wanted to take a step back, but the wall hindered her, and then his face loomed over hers. “I’m sorry, my lord, I didn’t know it was your cub, it was hurt, and so I…” Zephyr bit her lip nervously as she avoided his soul-piercing gaze. Her eyes were still fixed on the cub in her arms, but then his silence made her even more scared, and that was when she looked up to stare at him. His lips tilted up into a sardonic smirk as he stared at her with intrigue. He took one step away from her. “Come here, Rayven,” he said to the little cub in her arms, and the cub didn’t waste a second before jumping from her arms and landing smartly on the floor next to its master. “Naughty thing, searching for food for your mother, weren’t you?” Damon chuckled as he crouched and patted Rayven on the head. Zephyr’s body was as stiff as stone upon hearing his words. If only she hadn’t been nosey, if only she had just ignored the sound, then she would have been safely tucked in bed by now. The cub ran away, leaving Zephyr and the Alpha alone. Zephyr held her hands close to her chest as Damon stared at her. “I’m leaving you off with a warning, don’t go poking your nose in things that don’t concern you. Get out,” he said coldly, and Zephyr didn’t waste one more second before sprinting out of the room. She ran as fast as her little feet could take her, and she got to her room and laid on the small bed. She felt scared, he was scary. Zephyr shut her eyelids tight as she tried to shut the thoughts about him away. Damon sat in front of the fireplace, lost in thought. What the f**k was wrong with him? That little girl should have been long dead, but for some odd reason he didn’t let anyone touch a strand of her hair. Rayven ran towards him, and he began running around his leg. He almost bit him, but Damon was quick to kick the little cub, and its back hit the hard wall. The little cub transformed into a guy that looked Damon’s age. His black silk hair fell on both sides of his temples, and his black orbs glared at Damon. He rose to his full height and placed both hands on his slim waist, he was shirtless. “The last time I make a fuckin bet with Damon Alaric, I can’t believe you made me transform into a stupid cub, and I was carried like a weak and helpless animal,” Rayven said as he glared at his heartless best friend. “You were one,” Damon deadpanned. Rayven scoffed, and he fell on the other chair beside Damon. “She was pretty though and cute too,” Rayven chuckled. He brought out the fabric Zephyr had torn to bandage his wound, and Rayven sniffed it. “She smells like snow too, can I keep her, Damon?” Rayven smirked. Damon got up from the chair he had been sitting on, and he walked up to Rayven and snatched the fabric from him. He left without another word. “Crazy,” Rayven smirked, but the smile vanished almost immediately as he became lost in thought. ………… Zephyr’s hair was tied in a neat bun, as the maids hated when she let her long hair fall. She knelt on the floor as she cleaned the floors in the large hallway all alone. She didn’t know why, but she was always given the largest amount of work. She finished the work in no time, and she held her stomach as it rumbled in hunger. She would have waited for nighttime, but after what happened the previous time, she scratched the thought out of her head. Zephyr left the hallway, and she headed to the kitchen where the maids were. She couldn’t look up as their discriminatory eyes fell on her, she felt like dirt. They stared at her with utmost disgust, and Zephyr nearly shrunk to the floor. She took her plate of food, and she looked around, trying to find a place to sit. She nervously walked up to a table where three maids were already seated. She was about to sit, but one of the maids was quick to kick the chair far away. “Get lost, filt,” she said scornfully. Zephyr tried to sit at three other tables, but the maids there harshly chased her away, and her eyes became moist as tears threatened to spill from them. She finally found an empty table, and she sat alone while placing her food on the table. She had only eaten one spoon from her food when someone roughly dragged her by the hair and pushed her to the floor. Zephyr’s elbows began bleeding due to the impact of the fall. Zephyr looked up, and it was none other than Sheila. Sheila took her plate of food and emptied it on her head. Zephyr clenched her fist as she struggled to hold her tears back. “How dare you think you can eat with us, you lowly filt!” Sheila spat as she pulled Zephyr’s hair roughly, and she began slapping her harshly. Zephyr couldn’t control the tears anymore, and they began rushing out of her eyes. No one came to her aid, as everyone seemed to be enjoying the show, they all hated her. Sheila finally got her fill, and she let Zephyr go. Zephyr quickly ran out of the kitchen as more tears fell from her eyes. She was tired, tired of being maltreated every single day of her life. It felt like her existence was a huge sin, was that why she was being punished this way? She was going through hell, and there was no one to lean on, everyone hated her. She wished everything could just end, her life was filled with misery anyway. Zephyr ran to the last floor of the castle—the clock tower. She stood there as the strong wind hit her on the face. Her eyes were red with tears, and her face had bruises which she had gotten from Sheila’s beatings. “I don’t want to live anymore,” Zephyr cried as she advanced to the edge of the tower. She stood on the railing, and she didn’t dare look down, if she did, then she would become scared and back off. Underneath the full moon, Zephyr said her last prayers and she jumped down the railings. Her heart felt like it was in her mouth as she felt herself going down, time seemed to have slowed, and Zephyr closed her eyes as she prepared to succumb to the eternal darkness. She braced herself for the skull-cracking hit, but it never came. She slowly opened her eyes, and her eyes widened beyond their sockets when she found herself in the Alpha’s arms. His dark gray eyes glared at hers, and Zephyr immediately forgot how to breathe. His lips suddenly tilted up into a sinister smirk, scaring Zephyr even more. “You prayed for death, and here I am,” he said coldly, and before Zephyr could process his words, Damon swiftly took out his dagger and stabbed her with it. Zephyr’s eyes widened a bit, and she instantly felt life draining out of her. She couldn’t form any words as she felt herself succumb to the darkness.
