Matt's face was contorted in anger. "What do you mean your mate?" He demanded.
Alpha Lenox's eyes widened. "What the f**k are you talking about?"
"I am talking about the woman you hit in the casino," Alpha Black said. "The woman you attacked."
Matt's mind raced. He tried to think of something, anything, to say to clear this up. But there was nothing to say. He was caught.
"I don't know what you're talking about," he said. His voice was weak and his words stumbled.
The room went quiet. Then Alpha Black spoke again. "I think you do know what I'm talking about," he said. His voice was still cold and his eyes were still hard.
"This is a serious accusation," Alpha Lenox said.
"I know it is," Alpha Black replied. "And I think your son here knows exactly what I'm talking about."
"All I know is you're sticking your nose in places it doesn't belong." Matt spat. "There's no way that omega w***e is your mate. She belongs to me. She was punished for spreading her legs for the whole pack when she was meant to be my mate."
Alpha Black growled, his hand shot out to take mine gently.
"She is not yours. She is mine. I knew it the moment I laid eyes on her. Slander my mate again and I will end you."
"I will kill you," Matt snarled.
I tried to tug my hand free, but Alpha Black held on tight. "You will not touch her," he said, his voice low and deadly.
Matt glared at Alpha Black, then at me. "You are not his mate. You are mine."
His hands were on me then, twisting me around and jerking me to him. His lips found mine, and he kissed me hard, like he was trying to prove something. His tongue pushed past my lips, seeking a response that I could not give. The scent of his cologne and the feel of his body pressed against mine brought back a flood of memories. I'd loved him once. I'd thought he was my mate. But there had never been anything real between us. He'd used me.
"She is mine," Alpha Black said, his voice a low rumble. "She is my mate. You will never touch her again."
Matt's mouth was hard on mine, his hands rough on my skin. And then, suddenly, he was gone, flying backward as though he'd been hit by a truck. He landed on the ground ten feet away and lay still, his eyes wide with disbelief.
Alpha Black was standing over him, his eyes narrowed, his face hard and unyielding. I could see the anger in his eyes, the violence just waiting to be unleashed.
Matt lay still on the ground, his eyes wide with disbelief. He was staring up at Alpha Black, his mouth hanging open in shock.
I stood frozen in place, my heart pounding in my chest. I couldn't believe what was happening. One minute Matt was kissing me and the next he was lying on the ground.
I glanced over at Alpha Black. He was staring down at Matt, his eyes cold and hard, his lips pressed together in a snarl. He was looking down at Matt as though he were looking at a piece of trash.
Alpha Black leaned forward and narrowed his eyes, his face inches from Matt's now. He stared at him, his nostrils flaring, his face hard.
"You're pathetic," Alpha Black said as his eyes bored into Matt's. "Why don't you pick on someone your own size?"
"That's what I'm doing," Matt said, his voice weak and shaky. "I'm giving you a chance to prove yourself."
"What makes you think I need to prove myself?"
Alpha Black laughed. "You're delusional if you think you can beat me." Then he paused and shook his head. "I'm going to enjoy this."
He reached down and grabbed Matt by the arms, pulling him up to his feet. Then he pushed him back against a tree and stood in front of him.
"Okay, let's do this," Alpha Black said as he began circling his opponent, his eyes never leaving Matt's face. "I'm going to make this quick and painless, although I don't think it'll be quick enough for you."
He moved in quickly and landed a punch square on the side of Matt's face. Matt fell to the ground.
"Enough!" Alpha Lenox boomed, standing from his seat. "You will not lay another finger on my son." he turned his attention to me. "If this is true, and you are Matt's mate, I command you to reject him. I will not have him harmed over some omega slut."
I stood frozen in place. I couldn't think straight. My mind went blank, and my limbs froze. I couldn't move. Alpha Black turned to look at me, his chest heaving with rage. His face softened as he looked me over.
"It's alright Raylyn. If there is a bond in place between you, reject it so that you can feel our bond. I will make sure you are never harmed again."
He reached out his hand, and I walked towards him. He wrapped his arms around me, and I tried to push him away. The idea of a bond with any of them was unthinkable. It would be just like I was back in the arms of my abuser. I pushed him away.
"No," I said, shaking my head. "I won't bond with any of you. I'd rather die than be your mate."
Alpha Lenox cleared his throat. "Reject the bond with Matt if it truly exists and then leave this pack, Raylyn."
Matt snarled and protested but I did as I was commanded.
"I, Raylyn, reject you Matt as my mate."
Pain shot through me, but ended faster than the pain Matt was feeling. HE howled in pain as I felt a new bond settle in place. Suddenly, there was pull toward Alpha Black. The murderous Alpha hadn't been lying when he claimed he was my mate. I just didn't understand how he felt it when I was still mated to Matt.
I knew he could smell the confusion coming off me in waves, but there was nothing I could do about it. After what he had done to Matt, I didn't trust him.
Matt struggled to his feet and growled at Alpha Black. The new Alpha growled back and bared his teeth. I couldn't believe how quickly Alpha Black had changed from a weak and sickly man to a powerful werewolf with a voice that commanded obedience.
There were still questions I needed to know the answers to, but I knew I had to wait until we were alone. I knew Matt wouldn't be happy with me, but he would have to accept it. There wasn't another choice.
Alpha Black turned to me and said, "You have done well, Raylyn. Now come. We will gather your belongings and then I will take you home."
He extended his hand to me and I took it, feeling a sudden jolt of electricity at his touch. It was strange, but I didn't pull away. Instead, I allowed him to lead me back into the house.
As we walked, I couldn't help but wonder what exactly was going on. Why had he saved me? What did he want with me? Surely there were easier prey than me out there. But then again, maybe not. Maybe I was just that lucky. Or unlucky. I still wasn't sure which it was.
We gathered my things quickly and before long we were on our way. Alpha Black drove us through the city, pointing out different landmarks and telling me stories about them. I listened eagerly, wanting to know everything about this place and its people.
Eventually, we arrived at a large house on the outskirts of town. Alpha Black led me inside and showed me to my room. It was simple, but clean and comfortable.
I was exhausted from the day's events, but I didn't want to sleep yet. The day's events still reeled in my head like a disturbing dream.
"Alpha Black," I said, standing in the doorway of my bedroom. "I wanted to thank you for all you've done today. You have given me so much."
He smiled and put his hand on my shoulder. "You've given me much more than I could ever give you. You could never know just how much."
I didn't know what to say, but he didn't seem to mind. He walked away to check on the rest of the house. I entered my room, closing the door behind me. I leaned against the door and slid down to the floor, feeling almost dizzy. The day's events had been too much for me.
I tried to focus on my breathing, trying to calm myself down. It felt like a thousand thoughts were running through my mind, each pushing me further and further away from clarity. I closed my eyes and tried to focus on the music in my head. Mistreated, misplaced, misunderstood.
