"I bought you something for your Luna ceremony." Doug smiled at me.
I took the small package from him and tore off the paper. It was a gold necklace with a crescent moon pendant.
"It's beautiful," I said, touched by his gesture.
"I'm glad you like it." Doug put the necklace around my neck and fastened the clasp.
I hugged him, feeling a rush of nervousness.
"What do I have to do for tonight's ceremony?" I asked.
"Just stand there and look pretty," Doug said. "Until it's time for the mating."
I laughed. "I can do that."
He took my hand and led me into the living room. The table was set for dinner. Candles flickered, casting a soft light on the walls.
The aroma of something delicious wafted into the room. "What's for dinner?" I asked.
"Chicken and rice. I made it myself," Doug said proudly.
"Wow. I'm impressed." I sat down at the table and surveyed the place settings, which matched the silverware. "You're pretty cute when you're domestic."
"I am," Doug said, and sat down across from me.
I took a sip of wine and smiled at him over the rim of my glass. "This is a nice place."
"Thanks." He raised his glass to mine. "To new beginnings."
I clinked my glass against his and drank.
Doug brought the food to the table, setting it down with a flourish. "Bon appétit," he said.
"What does that mean?" I asked, as I dug in.
"It means, enjoy your food," Doug said, smiling at me.
I took a bite of chicken and gave a contented sigh. "This is really good."
"I'm glad you approve," Doug said, sitting back and watching me eat. He had an endearing look on his face that was part proud father, part proud boyfriend.
I finished my plate and pushed it away. "That was delicious." I looked at Doug, who sat as still as a statue. "What are you looking at?"
"You," he said. "You're so beautiful."
I blushed and looked down at the table, not sure what to say. I was happy with Doug, but I was also unsure how to react when he said things like that. It was so out of the blue, so completely unexpected.
"I'm sorry," he said, "I didn't mean to embarrass you."
"That's okay," I said, still looking down. "I just don't … I'm not used to compliments."
"You're used to people being mean to you." Doug said.
I looked up at him, surprised that he could read me so well.
"You're my mate, my Luna. Nobody will be cruel to you again. You deserve compliments and praise." He breathed. "And I want to give you those things. I want to give you everything."
"I don't need things," I said. "Just you."
"You will have me," Doug said, his breath coming faster. "You will have me every night for the rest of your life."
"I want you now," I said.
"You have me." He moaned. "I'm here."
"No," I said. "I don't have you, not like this. Give me what I want."
"Don't tempt me. You need to finish eating and dress for the ceremony. We'll have time for hours of f*****g later."
I pouted but did as he said. When we were finished eating he pulled me from my seat and wrapped his arms around me.
He held me tight and smiled. "Soon," he whispered. "I'll get you ready for the ceremony, and then, you're mine."
I shivered with excitement. It didn't matter that he had told me the ceremony required us to mate in front of the whole pack, I needed him as badly as I needed air. I would take it however I could get it.
He led me to the bedroom, motioning for me to sit on the bed while he moved to the walk-in closet. I heard him moving things around for a moment before he returned with the most gorgeous and revealing gown I had ever seen.
The gown was made of sheer silk, the color of his eyes. It was strapless, the bodice held together by a corset, with one sole patch of solid fabric to hide my nether region. The corset had laces and buttons, which he expertly moved. I knew it would leave nothing to the imagination.
I undressed quickly so that Doug could help me into the gown for my ceremony. His hands slid along my waist, sending sparks trailing along behind him as he settled it over my head. He barely bothered with the laces for the corset, tying them just enough to keep my breasts from falling out.
He took a step back and looked at me. "You look beautiful."
I blushed. I couldn't help it. I felt beautiful.
"We should go, the pack is waiting." He smiled, extending his hand to me.
We walked hand in hand from the Alpha quarters, through the long hallway, and down the stairs to the ballroom. There were tables lining the walls with people filling every seat. Doug led me to the raised dais in the center of the room.
The tables were covered in fine linens, with table settings of silverware gleaming in the candlelight. The people around the tables were from every walk of life, from every race and every creed, but they were all there for the same reason. They were all there to see their Alpha claim his Luna.
I looked out at the crowd and felt a lump form in my throat. I was about to be claimed. I was about to be claimed publicly, officially, before the eyes of the whole pack. I felt a shiver of regret run through me, thinking of the time that had passed before my first claiming, but I pushed it away. I was happy here. I was where I was meant to be.
I took a deep breath and turned my attention back to Doug. He was staring at me with such intensity in his eyes that I felt myself blushing. He reached out and grabbed my hand and I felt a tingle run up my arm.
“Doug,” I whispered.
“I love you,” he said, his voice soft but strong. “You are my life now. The moon shines for you. The stars dance for you. I will give you everything I have to offer, everything that I am. You are it for me, my Luna. You are my soul mate.”
I felt a tear trickle down my cheek. He leaned in and kissed it away, then leaned in further and kissed my lips. Everything seemed to fall away as I closed my eyes and lost myself in the kiss. It was like a dream, like a fantasy, completely unreal and completely perfect at the same time. I never wanted it to end, but I knew that it must.
“Let's get this party started!” someone shouted from the back of the room.
He pulled away reluctantly, still holding me close. “We should probably get the ceremony started.
I nodded reluctantly, and Doug's beta moved toward us as if that was his signal. He held a chalice and dagger in his hands, that he sat before our feet on the dais.
Doug turned to face the crowd of Lycans waiting eagerly for us to begin. "Black Raven Moon, tonight we initiate our Luna into the pack. She has shown the strength and courage necessary to become one of us. Are you ready to welcome her into our fold?"
The Lycans howled in response, a chorus of excited barks and growls.
Doug turned to me and held out his hand. "Are you ready, Raylyn?"
I glanced at the crowd, my heart racing. I nodded, and took his hand. "Yes."
In one smooth motion he dipped down and grabbed the dagger at our feet before slicing open his palm and mine.
The blood from our wounds mixed together, running down our arms and dripping to the ground.
Doug lowered his hand, releasing his hold on the dagger. I did the same, feeling it fall to the ground beside me.
"Join hands," he instructed with a voice like thunder.
I took his hand and he grabbed mine, squeezing it tightly.
"What is your name?" he demanded, his voice commanding and deep.
"I am Raylyn, Luna of Black Raven Moon," I answered, my voice shaking slightly.
"What is your purpose?"
"To protect the pack."
"What is your destiny?"
"To mate with the Alpha and produce the next generation of Lycans."
Doug squeezed my hand. "What is your duty?"
"To serve the pack."
"What is your bond?"
"To do whatever it takes to protect the pack." My voice was strong and clear this time, my confidence growing with each question. Doug squeezed my hand again and began to recite the vow:
It is a bond that transcends love, a bond that is stronger than death itself. I will protect you with my life, I will defend you with my life. You are my heart, and gentleness, and I am your strength and shield. Together we will always be one. Nothing and no one in the world will ever tear us apart. Our hearts, our souls, our lives are one and the same. Together, we guide our pack to glory."
My dress stirred as if a magical breeze blew around us and a cacophony of voices in my head welcomed me as the pack link fell into place.
A single tear rolled down my cheek, and Doug gently wiped it away with his thumb, smiling at me through his own tears.
"We have a Luna!" He cheered, turning me to face the crowd of kneeling Lycans.
There was only one thing left to do to seal my place at Doug's side as his mate and Luna.
