Leah’s first day at university passed in a blur of new faces, campus maps, and syllabus overload. She should have been excited, but all she could think about was home—specifically, the man waiting there. By the time she walked through the front door that evening, her body felt heavy with anticipation and nerves.
Damian was in the living room when she arrived. He had just finished another workout and wore only black gym shorts. His chest and abs were still slick with sweat, every cut and ridge of muscle highlighted under the warm lighting. He looked like a statue carved for temptation.
“Welcome back,” he said, wiping his neck with a towel. His voice was calm, but his eyes traced her figure—lingering on the way her blouse clung to her curves after the walk. “How was it?”
“Overwhelming but good.” Leah kicked off her shoes, acutely aware of how close they stood. The air felt thicker already. “You look like you destroyed that gym again.”
A faint smirk touched his lips—the closest thing to a smile he usually gave. “Helps clear my head.”
If only it could clear mine, Leah thought. Her secret crush had roared back to life with terrifying force. Every glance at his powerful body reminded her how much bigger and stronger he was. Five years older. Her stepbrother. Off-limits.
She escaped to shower and change into a loose tank top and tiny cotton shorts. When she came down for dinner, Damian had ordered her favorite Thai food. They ate at the kitchen island, knees occasionally brushing underneath. Each accidental touch sent sparks racing up Leah’s thighs.
“You’ve been quiet,” Damian observed, watching her with those intense dark eyes. “Something on your mind?”
Leah’s fork paused. You. Your hands. How badly I want them on me. “Just… adjusting. It’s weird being here after so long.”
He nodded slowly. “It’s different having you around.” His voice dropped lower. “The house feels less empty.”
The simple words warmed her more than they should have. After dinner, they moved to the couch again. A summer storm had rolled in, and the power flickered once before cutting out completely, plunging the room into darkness broken only by flashes of lightning.
“Great,” Damian muttered. He found candles and placed a couple on the coffee table. Their warm glow danced across his bare torso—he still hadn’t put on a shirt. “Storm should pass soon.”
Leah curled up beside him on the couch, closer than necessary. The thunder made her jump, and this time she didn’t resist when his arm came around her shoulders, pulling her against his side.
“You’re shaking,” he said softly. His breath brushed her temple.
“Not really scared,” she whispered. “Just… startled.”
His hand rubbed slow circles on her upper arm. The motion was soothing, but the heat of his palm burned. Leah’s n*****s tightened against her thin top. She shifted, pressing her thigh more firmly against his. Damian’s body tensed, but he didn’t move away.
The silence stretched, heavy with unspoken things. Leah’s heart hammered as she breathed in his clean, masculine scent mixed with the faint salt of his earlier workout. Her secret feelings from middle school felt childish compared to the raw desire flooding her now. She wanted to climb into his lap, feel those strong hands grip her hips, taste his mouth.
Damian’s fingers trailed lower, brushing the side of her breast accidentally. Or maybe not so accidentally. His breath hitched. Leah looked up at him, lips parted. In the candlelight, his eyes were dark with hunger and conflict.
“Leah…” he murmured, voice rough. His free hand came up to cup her cheek, thumb stroking her lower lip. The touch was gentle but possessive. Electricity shot straight to her core. She was wet already, aching from nothing more than his proximity and that intense stare.
“I know this is wrong,” she breathed, leaning into his touch. “But I’ve wanted this for years.”
Damian’s jaw clenched. Emotions warred across his usually stoic face—desire, guilt, protectiveness. “You’re my little sister. I’m supposed to look out for you, not…” He trailed off as his gaze dropped to her mouth again. His thumb pressed firmer against her lip.
Leah’s hand slid onto his chest, feeling his heart thunder under her palm. His skin was fever-hot. She traced a slow line down his abs, marveling at how they tightened beneath her fingers. Damian groaned softly—a low, tortured sound that made her thighs press together.
“f**k,” he whispered. His hand slid into her hair, gripping just tight enough to tilt her head back. Their faces were inches apart. She could feel his breath mingling with hers, the tension coiling so tight it hurt.
Just as his lips brushed the corner of hers in the lightest, teasing touch, the power suddenly surged back on. The lights flared, and the TV blared to life, shattering the moment.
Damian pulled back sharply, breathing hard. His eyes were wild, pupils blown with need. He ran a hand through his hair, visibly fighting for control.
“We can’t,” he said hoarsely, though his body clearly disagreed. The bulge in his shorts was impossible to ignore. “This… it would change everything.”
Leah’s chest ached with frustration and longing. She was trembling with unfulfilled desire, her body screaming for more of his touch. “What if I want it to change?” she asked softly, voice shaking with emotion.
Damian stood up abruptly, muscles coiled with tension. He looked at her for a long, burning moment—raw hunger mixed with deep conflict—before turning away.
“I need some air.”
He walked out onto the back porch, leaving Leah alone on the couch, heart racing and body on fire. The storm continued outside, mirroring the one building between them.
As lightning flashed again, illuminating his broad silhouette in the doorway, Leah realized with startling clarity that resisting this pull might already be impossible.
And deep down, she wasn’t sure either of them truly wanted to resist anymore.
