He just won't give up

I don’t know how long we were out there, but I didn’t care, those however long hours we were out there talking was awesome. We talked about whatever and I was surprised that I actually bonded with her, and I mean really bonded. I don’t remember the last time I ever bonded with a girl, like real bonding. But it felt great, I was able to get to know her some more and I actually enjoyed telling her about myself.   Which felt kinda weird cause whenever I try to talk about things I like with other people, they tend to ignore me. Well, except Evan cause well, we’re both nerds obviously. Nerd buddies! Anyway, I really enjoyed today. I was so not in the mood to do some training. Although I know I’m gonna have to tomorrow, so I might as well get ready. Oh, wait a minute. I just remembered I gotta take down that Flint guy in a math contest. I honestly don’t care what happens so I might as well show up. I had to use the map Aria gave me to find that classroom again. And thankfully, I was able to find it as I entered the classroom expecting to see Flint waiting for me, and for some reason, I was kinda expecting to see him sharpening a knife. I don’t know, it’s just a random thought from watching too many movies. But when I walked in, I was surprised to see that it was empty. No Flint. No Flint sharpening a knife. Nothing. “You came.” A nearly jumped out of my skin while clutching my chest when I turned around to see the elf leaning against the corner near the door. And no, he wasn’t sharpening a knife. “Jeez!” I breathed with fright “Have you been standing there this whole time?!” “Pretty much” he shrugged “I always enjoy making a dramatic entrance.” You don’t say? “Well, I’m here” I sighed once I calmed down “Let’s get this over with. What do you want me to do? You want me to solve another impossible question?” He didn’t say anything as he went over to the professor’s desk and picked up a sheet of paper and handed it to me. “You and I are gonna work out this test” he explained, “Whoever finishes first wins.” I looked over the test, it looked like just any other college math test. Well, for a smartie at least. “Very well,” I told him “But if I win, will you suck it up and move on with your life?” “As I said before, I’ll be the judge of that” he frowned. “You are so judgy” I snickered. “Shut up.” “Whatever” I rolled my eyes as we sat down at the student desks. “Begin.” Man, I still can’t believe Flint is making me take this test just to see how smart I really am. And let me just say that these math questions may look hard to some people, but to me, they’re so simple. All I had to do was this and that, add this, substitute that. Thank goodness this world doesn’t have questions that involve using a calculator, now that would’ve taken longer. “Done” I announced while dropping my pencil. “What?” he snapped his head at me. Oh, would you look at that, he had just started the last question. I win. “Can I go home now?” I asked, “I really gotta get back to my dorm.” Flint didn’t say anything as he snatched the test from the desk and went up to the professor’s desk where I watched him check the answers. “What the hell?!” he shouted with rage while tossing the papers in the air “How did you-! How-! Ugh!!!!!” “Well,” I breathed while getting up from my seat “This has been nice. Goodbye.” “Not so fast, Nessie” he suddenly spoke. Did he call me Nessie? “My name’s Jesse” I corrected with a frown. “Shut up” he grunted as he stepped towards me “I must say, as angry as I am that you beat me once again, I’m rather impressed.” “Thanks” I smirked. “Wipe that smirk off your face” he ordered, “This isn’t over. Now that you’re the new talk of this place, I’ll make sure you’re spoken of in a way.” “Was that supposed to be a threat?” I kept on smirking “Because if it was, it didn’t sound very threatening.” “You just wait” he scowled “You don’t know what I’m capable of.” I crossed my arms while taking a glance at my ring. The gem was now a new color, it looked like a magenta color. What was that for? Confidence? I’m pretty sure it was. “Let me tell you a little something, Dint” I warned, and yes, I did purposely say his name wrong “I’ve dealt with people like you in the past, people who are always trying to bring me down. But I’ve learned some things from those times, especially how to deal with them. And right now, I wouldn’t mind doing it again.” “Well, unlike those people, I’m not entirely human. Which means I can do a whole lot better than those pathetic brains of theirs. Just wait, Nessie, and you’ll see what I mean.” And with that, he gave me the stare before walking out. Now, I gotta be honest, Flint was right about him not being entirely human, which means he might have worse ideas for me than all my past bullies. Although Aria did tell me that some elves aren’t very wise, like Dale, for example. But I doubt Flint is a dumb kind of elf, and that’s starting to get me worried. I had no idea what he is capable of. For all I know, he could actually kill me. I really shouldn’t be thinking about this right now, I just need to focus on getting back. So like I always do, I rub the ring 3 times and I’m back at my college, always appearing in places where no one can see me. __________ Later that night, Evan hadn’t come back from doing who knows what as I was busy studying at my desk. But as I was doing so, I couldn’t stop thinking about Aria and our talk. I would love to talk to her some more, get to know more about her. It’s not like every day you end up having a nice chat with an elf princess. But she did say that we were friends and that I’m practically part of her little group now with Hazel and Dale. I still can’t believe she said that, but I gotta see how I’ll do in this elf group, see if I can really trust them. Knock knock Huh, who could that be? I went over to the door and answered it, and wouldn’t you know it, it was goth Wren. “Wren?” I remarked surprised. “Just checking to see that you’re still alive and haven’t gotten attacked by goblins again,” she said when she scanned me with her eyes “I can see you made it back here safely.” “Yeah well, I didn’t exactly go outside at night.” “Good. I’m here to give you this.” She held out her hand to show a bronze four-leaf clover charm. Not gonna lie, it looked pretty cool. It had these swords like designs in each leaf, like something from the Celtic side. “Four-leaf clovers can be used as protection against evil creatures like goblins” she explained, “I recommend you try to wear it as often as you can. I don’t care how you wear it, just find some way to keep it with you at all times.” “Oh,” I replied astonished as I accepted the charm “Um, thanks, Wren.” “I also have this for you” she handed me a piece of old paper “Instead of you trying to figure out the colors on your own, even though most of them are pretty obvious, this paper shows the many colors your ring has and what they mean.” “Oh, finally!” I threw my hands up while taking the paper “I’ve been waiting for this. I’ve been wondering what other colors they had. I mean I know that most of them are pretty obvious, but now I can finally see what other colors it has and what it means!” “Try not to sound so excited” she frowned “It’s embarrassing.” My excitement faded “Sorry.” “Though most of the colors are common ones, there is one color that you should try to avoid.” “What color?” “Read and find out. Have a nice night.” She walked off just like that. Fine, I guess I will read and find out. After closing the door, I took a seat on the edge of my bed while pulling out my ring from my backpack and I began to go over the list. Blue- Normal/ Calm Red- Angry Light Blue- Sad Green- Jealous Yellow- Happy Orange- Nervous/ Scared Oh, these are so obvious. Purple- In love Whoa. Um uh- I haven’t noticed it turn purple yet. I guess it doesn’t turn purple when I’m just crushing. And I don’t know what to feel if it ever does turn purple. Um... moving on. Gray- In pain (physically and emotionally) Emotionally too huh? Those are the worst. Brown- Disgust Wow, I can see why it’s brown. Magenta- Confident So I was right about that. And such a bold color for that feeling. Gold- Brave Ooh, that sounds interesting. Multiple colors- Mixed emotions That’s a thing? Really? I kinda wanna see that. And lastly... Black- Stay away from! What the hell? It doesn’t even explain why. Well, judging by Wren’s warning and this paper, I’m guessing it’s not good. I’m gonna have to be careful. I don’t know what will happen if my ring turns black, and I really hope it doesn’t happen.
