Case solved, with a side of pain

Things were getting so intense by the second, I seriously felt like I was in a crime show where I was exposing the killer and boy was I enjoying it. “Am I right?” I questioned Theo who was still too frozen to move out of his seat. “I didn’t kill him,” he declared as he shook a little. “Oh, I know you didn’t. You’re not the killer.” “Wait, what?” Dale remarked surprised “Hold on a second, if you’re saying that Theo didn’t kill Zed, then who did?” “Well, we’ve already established that the true cause of death was wolfsbane poisoning that was in his tea. We assumed that he must have consumed it around 12 which was most likely his lunch break, and he had to be alone or else someone would’ve noticed the symptoms. But the question remains, how did wolfsbane get into his tea? Now I thought that someone must have put it in his tea in the kitchen where most of the workers make their meals, however, as I read more of his journal, I found that he wasn’t having his lunch alone.” “What?” everyone tilted his head. “Who was he having lunch with?” Hazel asked. “Why, the other person Zed felt he should trust- West.” “West?” they gasped. “Am I right Theo?” I asked the elf who was avoiding eye contact by glaring down “I’m taking that as a yes.” “I don’t get it,” Aria spoke with a confused look “Why would West poison Zed?” “The answer is quite simple, to protect Theo. Because that’s what friends do. Friends protect each other no matter what. But sometimes, protection can go too far.” Everyone turned their eyes to Theo who was still glaring down as he nervously rubbed his arms. “Now let me explain what I think happened” I announced. “I believe that on the day of the murder, sometime after Flint faced Zed which was around 9 in the morning, I think that Zed confronted Theo about him stealing money from his room. Now, this is just a guess, but I believe that Zed threatened to blackmail Theo to give him back the money or else he would use the photos against him. And I’m guessing that’s where Theo tried to kill him with his pocketknife.” “What?” everyone gasped. “What makes you think he did that?” Hazel asked. “I remembered something when Cian and I were studying Zed’s body, the slashes on his arms went in the same direction as the wounds on his torso meaning that they must’ve been done by the same person. And since Theo is left-handed, that also means he used the ax on Zed.” At that moment, everyone’s jaws dropped. Yep, I said what everyone was wanting to hear. “What makes you think I’m left-handed?” Theo demanded. “Easy,” I smirked “The way you’re wearing your satchel. Most people would wear it to the side where the satchel is hanging by their right hips, but yours is hanging on the left side. Meaning you must be left-handed.” Everyone glanced down at Theo’s satchel that he was still wearing on his left side. “Wow,” Dale remarked amusedly “I didn’t even notice that.” And by the look on Theo’s face, he knew I was right. “So, what do you think happened after Theo used his knife on Zed?” Aria asked me. “Well,” I began while turning to Theo, “I think Theo should tell us.” “What?” Theo’s eyes widen. “Come on, Theo.” I grinned while sitting on the coffee table in front of him “I know that you know everything that happened, so tell us. Start off after Zed escaped from your knife, what happened next?” “I’m not telling anything,” he growled. “Would you rather I beat the truth out of you?” Hazel threatened while getting up from her seat. “Take it easy, Hazel” I settled, “We don’t wanna cause a bigger problem.” “I’m just saying,” she shrugged while sitting back down “I’m ready in case we need to.” “I don’t think we will” I assured while turning back to Theo, “So, you gonna tell us? I mean, you’re practically caught she you might as well just tell us.” Everyone waited as Theo just glared at me with anger in his eyes. I could tell he wanted to attack me, but he knew he couldn’t with others around. It was all quite for about a minute, and that’s when Theo began to talk. “He went to see West,” he muttered, “He met up with West in the barn where he told him what I had done. As West helped Zed with his arms, he gave him lunch, that’s when he put the wolfsbane in his tea. He died there on the spot.” So that’s where the hay came from, I knew it. “After he died, West buried his body in some hay and then he came to see me and told me what he had done. I was glad that Zed was gone but, sooner or later, someone’s gonna try to find out what happened. So I decided to try to point the finger to someone else.” “And that’s when you decided to use my ax on him?” Dale questioned with a frown. “Yes,” he murmured, “I did it right there in the barn. I didn’t want to leave his body there because I knew someone could easily find it, and since it was lunchtime and there was barely anyone around, West and I wrapped up the body with a blanket and placed him in a wheelbarrow where we moved him inside the palace. After that, we carried him upstairs to the second story where we placed him in the closet of the classroom because I knew that’s where Dale left his ax. And with whatever time we had left, we cleaned up the blood and moved on as if nothing happened. I thought we would’ve gotten away with it if it wasn’t for this smart-ass.” “I know,” I smirked, “I get called that a lot.” “Did you know about the notebook?” Aria questioned Theo. “I didn’t,” he mumbled. “Well, West must have known” I stated, “That would explain why he tried to take it from me earlier.” “Where is West?” Theo demanded. “Most likely waiting to be sent to jail, which is also where you’re going by the way.” At that moment, Theo gave a snicker as I stood up from the table. “Shall we go?” I offered. “Before we go-” he replied while standing up “I just gotta-” All of a sudden, everything happened so quickly as I felt I hard blow across my face that was followed by a shove that knocked me down on the coffee table. It didn’t take me long to realize that Theo had actually attacked me as I heard him dashing out of the lounge. “Hey!” Aria screamed out as I heard her and the others go after him. I really wanted to stay behind to take care of my now throbbing nose, but I had to see what was going to happen as I hurried out of the lounge while clutching my nose where I followed the sounds of the footsteps. When I was able to catch up with them, I spotted Theo running across the second story with Hazel in the lead of the others. But just when I thought Theo was about to outrun her, Hazel suddenly took out one of her fighting knives and threw it at Theo as it pierced through a part of his leather jacket sleeve and pinned him to the wall. I couldn’t believe what I just witnessed, Theo was now pinned to the wall by Hazel’s knife while he was trying to run away. Holy cow, I seriously thought she was going to kill him, but nope, he didn’t even seem to be in pain as he struggled to pull the knife out from the wall that was holding him against it. “Nice try,” Hazel smirked while stepping down towards him “But you and everyone should know it’s never wise to run from me.” Theo gave her a death glare as she pulled the knife out from the wall which released him as she gripped onto his arm. “I’ll deal with him,” she told Aria who gave her a nod. As Hazel dragged Theo away, Aria and Dale turned their attention to me to see that I was still clutching my nose. “Are you okay?” Aria asked me. “Not really,” I mumbled when I moved my hand away. Holy s**t, there was blood on my hand, my nose was definitely bleeding. “Whoa,” Dale’s eyes suddenly widen. “Yeah...” I clenched my teeth “I’m gonna need a nurse.”
