This is my life, it sucks

Present-day “Jesse...” Who’s calling me? Is it my mom? Oh, wait, my mom’s voice doesn’t sound like a male. “Jesse...” There it is again, who keeps calling me? Okay hold on a second, why do I feel someone touching me? Okay, now who’s shaking me? “Jesse come on.” Wait a minute, that voice sounds familiar, and now the shaking is getting stronger. “JESSE!” At that moment, I sprang up from my deep sleep as a bright light struck my eyes. “The square root of 100 is 10!” Why did I just shout that? Oh wait a minute, I’m not in class, I’m still in my dorm, not in my bed, but at my desk. I must have fallen asleep on the desk again, yeah, it’s not the first time this has happened to me. I turned and spotted my roommate Evan by my side, so it was his voice I was hearing. “I fell asleep at my desk again didn’t I?” I asked him embarrassedly. “And you drooled too” he pointed to the puddle of my saliva on my desk. “Oh great” I grunted while slouching against my chair. “You’ve got uh-” Evan suddenly added as he pried a pencil off my face “And-” He pulled off a sticky note from my face, how did I not feel those on me? “There we go” he set those down. “What time is it?” I mumbled while rubbing my groggy face. “Well, class for you starts in 5 minutes.” “Wait, what?!” I screamed while turning to my clock on my desk to see that my class was indeed about to start in five minutes! “Oh s**t, I’m gonna be late!” I jumped out of my chair and tried to rush towards the shelf, only to feel myself tripping over my chair leg as I fell face-first onto the carpeted floor. “I’m fine” I assured Evan as I quickly got up and hurried to the shelf to take down my books. “If you run I think you can make it” he put in. “Gee thanks” I replied dully as I dashed out of our dorm. “I’ll see you later!” I heard him call from behind as I hurried down the hall and out of the dorm building while fixing up my short blond locks. Okay, now as I’m running towards my class, I might as well introduce myself. I’m Jesse, Jesse Thomas, I’m 24 years old and a senior at my University. What am I studying at this University? I thought you’d never ask. I’m aiming to get my degree in Criminal Justice cause I’m hoping on joining the CSI. Ever since I got accepted into Indiana State University, I’ve been studying and working like crazy, which is why I tend to fall asleep at my desk a lot. Now I gotta be honest, most people thought this is something I wouldn’t work for, especially since everyone knew me as being a clumsy dork and a class clown. Although I was never really a class clown, just a fool with a sense of humor. Ever since I was young, I’ve always been a bit of a nerd who was surprisingly smart in math and science. I’ve gotten a lot smarter over the years, and math and science are still my two favorite subjects. Although many people say I don’t look like a nerd, and I have to agree. I’ve gotten pretty attractive as I got older, and I look more like a dropout kind of guy. But thankfully I’m not, my body may have changed, but my brain hasn’t. You can say I’ve been of an A student, and I still am, not trying to brag. It’s just when it comes to my studies, I’m very serious about it, but that doesn’t mean I know how to have fun too. Now I wish I could explain more about myself, but I really have to- Smack! Ow... the door was not opened. And I’m seeing stars. As I rubbed my nose and my vision began to clear up, I looked up from the floor to see my Math professor looking down at me after opening the door. “Are you alright Jesse?” he asked startled. “I’m fine” I affirmed, though I could feel my nose bruising as he helped me up. “I should keep this door opened at all times” he suggested with a guilty look as he helped me into the classroom. My day is so not starting off well. ______________ After my classes were over, I was heading back towards the dorm building when I suddenly got a call. I took a seat on a bench as I pulled out my cell and answered the call from my mom. “Hey mom” I answered. “Hi honey” she replied cheerfully “How was your day?” “Well, I ran into a door earlier so that’s how my day’s going.” “Oh dear,” she sighed, “You’ve got to be more careful.” “I can’t, I was cursed with clumsiness.” She sighed again before adding- “You are coming home later right? Remember that grandma and grandpa are coming over?” “Was that today?” my eyes widen. “You forgot already?” she responded, now sounding disappointed. “I’m sorry, mom” I sighed, “I’m on my way now.” “Alright then, I’ll set up your bed.” I hung up the call while letting my arm drop on my lap and letting out a puff of air. Well, time to get going. Once I was ready, I headed over to the parking lot where I went over to my car as I got in. I can’t believe I forgot my grandparents were coming to visit today, I feel like an i***t. My grandparents live 30 minutes from my college which is an hour from my house. I tend to visit my parents every once in a while, mainly during the weekends, and sometimes my grandparents. They’re my mom’s parents, and they’re actually pretty cool, especially my grandfather. I’ve been close with him since I was a kid, and to me, he was like a way older version of Superman. He tells these really cool stories of him during his youth like there was this one time where he went against a g**g of muggers and beat all of their asses without even getting a single scratch. Yep, he’s that cool. When I made it to my house, I noticed that my grandparents’ car is already there. So after parking my car in the driveway, I got out and headed inside my house and into the living room where I saw my whole family gathered in the living room. My parents were there, so were my grandparents, and also my 20-year-old sister Kendra, who is the only reason I don’t like coming home. She may be younger than me, but she scares the hell out of me, which is why I try to stay away from her. She wasn’t even paying attention to anyone except her phone, typical Kendra. You may be wondering if she’s also in college because of her age. She is, but not at my college, just a local community college. I’ve actually forgotten what she’s planning on majoring in, but I don’t really care to be honest. She has her life and I have mine. “Hey there he is!” my dad pointed to me with a smile on his face “The big boy himself!” “Dad...” I groaned, “I told you not to call me that.” “Yeah, like I’m gonna listen to you” he snickered, “Big boy!” Everyone says I get my sense of humor from my dad, but that can’t be true, unlike my dad, I don’t try hard to be funny. “Hey there Jesse” my grandfather got up from his seat and walked over to me flashing his yellow teeth. “Hey gramps” I smiled as we went into a manly hug as the smell of old people struck my nose. Not only are my grandparents pretty cool, but they still don’t look close to death. They’re already in their eighties and yet they can still run a marathon. Maybe they do run marathons and that’s why they’re so fit. Impressive. “Look at you” the grandmother got up and walked over to me “It seems that every time we see you, you get more handsome.” Oh no, not the cheeks! And there she goes, pinching my cheeks again, which would have to be the one reason that makes my grandmother less cool than my grandfather, no offense grandma. “Oh you’re such a cute boy” she smiled while rubbing her fingers against my cheeks. Thanks, grandma, now would you please stop pinching my cheeks before they permanently turn red? And that’s not just from embarrassment. “Well you sure are growing up” my grandfather patted my shoulder “I hope I’ll still be alive to watch you get married.” I snickered, “Well I gotta get a girlfriend first.” “I can’t believe you’re still single” he shook his head showing his amusement “I mean look how attractive you’ve become, and yet you haven’t been on a date since high school.” I awkwardly bit my lip, he was right, I haven’t been on a date since high school, Junior year to be exact. I actually dated this girl who turned out to be not who I thought she was, but that’s a long story. The main thing, I haven’t been in a serious relationship before, and that kinda scares me. “Hey,” my grandfather caught my attention with a wink “Don’t give your hopes up, you’ll find someone.” I hope so, cause I really don’t wanna be single when I’m 30, and I’m already haft way there. “You know the only reason he’s still single is that he’s so focused on his studies” Kendra suddenly spoke up, not taking her eyes off her phone “He may have grown up, but he’s still a nerd, and we all know nerds never get the girl.” “Kendra!” my mother hissed. “I’m just saying” she shrugged, “If he wants a girlfriend, he has to put himself out there.” “You can’t rush love” my grandfather spoke up “It takes time. Jesse just has to let love come to him.” “And when will that happen? In 50 years?” she smirked. “Kendra!” my mother hissed again “That’s enough!” She rolled her eyes before going back to her phone. See, this is why I don’t like my sister, always bringing me down. “Hey,” my grandfather put his hand on my shoulder again “Let’s go to your room, there’s something I wanna show you.” Whatever it is, it better cheer me up.
