A PHYSICAL ATTACK
Carlos felt a prickle of fear down his spine as he left the meeting with Juan at the cafe. He couldn’t explain it, but something didn’t feel right. He pulled out his phone and was about to call Blanca when it rang. The call display showed Dominique’s number.
“Hi, Dominique.”
“Hello, Carlos. Are you sitting down?”
“What’s wrong?”
After a slight pause, she said, “Your father’s been in an accident.”
He gasped and his legs wobbled. “What? What kind of accident?”
“You need to come to the Cardio Trauma Ipanema Hospital. He’s in surgery now, but by the time you get here, I don’t know where he’ll be. Reception will advise you.” She gave him the details. “I’m sorry, Carlos.”
