A STERN WARNING
A week after visiting Isabela in the hospital, Blanca arrived at the office and went straight to Pedro’s office. She found him speaking on the phone, talking fast and loud, nostrils flaring and head jerking. He nodded at Blanca once, remaining focused on his conversation.
She stood cross-armed and cleared her throat, playing with the sleeves of her top as she waited for Pedro. She knew he held the key to the mystery of her past.
He startled her when he slammed down the phone, then fixed his intense gaze on her. Blanca took a deep, calming breath, wanting to get to the point. “I know you and my father were friends, but something happened seventeen years ago, when we vacationed here. What came between you and my father?”
