Victor was in the hangar and watched the people scurrying around the Rhein-Main airport, or Rhein-Mud, as the pilots had dubbed it. Ever since the Soviets had started to blockade Berlin two weeks prior, the Rhein-Main and Wiesbaden airports had become two hotbeds of activity. All available pilots and transport machines had been ordered in from all over Europe and every day more machines and crews arrived at the already crammed quarters. Rumors had it that an entire Navy flyer squadron from the Pacific would soon arrive, bringing with them their large C-54 aircraft, much bigger than the rather small workhorse Gooney Bird.
