Bruni woke up with a heavy arm across her breast. She wiggled out from under it and watched Victor sleeping. His dirty blond hair was tousled and more than just a shadow of stubble adorned his cheeks. He rolled over smiling but didn’t open his eyes. She itched to trace his dimples with her fingers but was afraid she’d wake him up. Fondly remembering last night, she slipped out of bed, put on a morning robe and touched up her makeup before she walked into the kitchen to raid her meager supplies and make him a hearty breakfast. Dried milk, dried eggs and coffee was all she could offer. With a shrug she decided she was not going to bother; he’d want to eat at the garrison anyway.
