She couldn’t move a single finger, but she heard the guards’ voices around her, panicked, low, almost afraid.
“She’s breathing… but what the f**k do we do with her?” one whispered.
“She looks like ” another swallowed, voice tight, “—like the new princess.”
That made them all go silent for a moment.
Lunae wanted to laugh, wanted to spit at them, wanted to scream yes, it’s me, your goddess-damned princess! But her lips wouldn’t move. Her tongue lay flat, heavy, dry.
One of the guards broke the silence. “If we take her straight to the palace like this, the King and Prince will accuse us. They’ll say we touched her, harmed her.”
Another hissed, “And if we leave her here? When she dies, it’ll be our heads anyway.”
