Blake’s POV
When Annabella started humming all my pain went away. I think she is the reason my hand healed so fast in the kitchen. Before I could do anything, I heard her bones break and her scream. I have witnessed many first shifts including my own, and have never seen something like that, but as quick as it happened was how fast her shift happened. Mid scream and it happened, her very first shift was done. I looked at her and felt my heart skip a beat. She is pure white, not a speck of any other color on her fur, and her eyes are the brightest purple I have ever seen. She is also huge; I would say maybe just a few inches shorter than my wolf. I could also feel the power coming off of her. “I told you she is amazing, maybe now you will believe me. You aren’t going to reject her.” I couldn’t argue that, while I still think it would be the best thing for her, I can’t be without her either. I guess I really am a selfish asshole.
I could hear the talking behind me, but I was too busy looking at my mate’s wolf to care. I slowly moved towards her until I was in arm’s reach, I reached out and touched her fur. It was thick and so soft; I heard a little purr before she pulled away from me. I remember my mom telling me earlier that I was going to have to win her over. I suppose she was right, and I will.
Annabella’s POV
I remember screaming in pain and then nothing. I feel weird, like I am in my body but not really in control of anything. “That, sweet Annabella, is because you completed your first shift. I am now in control of our body a little. The first few shifts you won’t have much control but after awhile you will get the hang of it.” Oh my gosh, my wolf! I finally have her! “I have so many questions! What is your name? Why was I able to figure out that Blake is our mate before my birthday? Also, I think I might have healed a wound on his hand earlier. I am sure I’m just crazy, but like, is that possible?” Before I could ask more she cut me off with a humph. “Let’s calm down. My name is Jade, and you aren’t crazy you did heal his hand. I can’t tell you much, we are going to have to learn about our past together, but you are only part werewolf Annabella. I wouldn’t be telling just anybody that, at least for now. Blake being an Alpha helps the connection but ultimately your power drew you together. I know you have a lot more questions but look at our reflection in the pond first. You deserve to see how beautiful we are.”
I walked over to the pond and looked down, when I saw my white face and purple eyes, I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. She was right, very beautiful. I noticed everyone staring at me, I looked at Blake who seemed to be studying me. I lifted my head up and lightly howled. Then I drifted to the back of my mind and let Jade take over for a run. While I wasn’t in control, I was still able to enjoy the feeling of everything she was. The way the ground felt beneath my paws, the wind in my fur, all of it. I took back control mid run when I felt other wolves joining me. I noticed Blake’s wolf Xavier was running right behind me. It didn’t take him long to catch up, he is an Alpha after all. As we he was passing me, he nipped at my paws playfully, urging me to run faster and chase him. While we took off as fast as we could the others kept at their pace, quickly falling behind.
The next hour was amazing, I don’t know what exactly it was, but I was able to clear my mind and just enjoy myself. I also know Jade had an amazing time being able to run freely. We finally ran back around and caught up with the alpha, luna and beta couple all back in their human forms and dressed. Luna Mary was waiting with a bag of my clothes; I gratefully grabbed them with my teeth went behind a tree and after a few minutes was able to shift back and get dressed. I walked back to the group “don’t worry darling, that was the worst of it. From now on your shifts will be easy and natural, you probably won’t have to think” she stopped mid-sentence when I reached them. “What?” I looked around trying to figure out what was going on. Everyone was staring at me; I felt my heart start to race. I knew this was too good to be true. Something is happening, I was about to make a mad dash to my parent’s house when Blake came up beside me. “Look at your reflection little one.” I took the few steps and leaned over the pond, gasping as I noticed. While my left eye was the same as it always has been, green, my right eye was now the same shade of purple as Jade’s.
“Is there something wrong with me? Does this mean I am broken or something?” I asked everyone, or maybe no one, tears starting to from in my eyes. Blake came over to me and stood next to me. I could tell he was trying to figure out if he should touch me, but ultimately, I heard him sigh and keep his hands to himself. “There is nothing wrong with you little one. You are not broken, but there is something different about you and I promise we will figure it out.” I looked up at him, he had a smile on his face almost like he was proud of something. I looked back at the group, and everyone was smiling at me.
Mary’s POV
Looking at my son and Annabella, I felt so much pride and happiness. While I have to admit the last few years my son has been an absolute asshole and has made some terrible decisions, he has started to make amends and I am proud of him for that. I couldn’t be any luckier for him to be mated to her, she is truly one of the best people I know. Her soul is far beyond her age and she is so full of kindness and love.
“Please Mary, please promise me you will keep Annabella safe.” I looked between my oldest friend and her toddler. Just a few months younger than my son. “Of course, I will Beth, you know that, but what is going on? Please just tell me. I promise whatever it is we will figure it out together.” I grab her hands in mine. Her large eyes growing in size and filling with tears, I felt my mouth go dry as she started to tell me.
“My love, are you okay?” my mate linked me, I noticed he was looking at me. “Yes darling, but I think its time to tell them.” He nodded his head in agreement. I sighed, not ready to tear Annabella’s world apart. I cleared my head, and my throat, before addressing everyone. “Okay everyone, we have known this night was going to come for a long time we all know what to do.” My mate and the beta couple left, leaving me with my son and Annabella. “Mom, what is going on?” he asked, standing as close to Annabella as possible while not touching her. Good, she will need all the protection she can get.
“My dears, please come sit so we can talk.” I gestured to a nearby picnic table. Once we were seated, I held her hand in my own. “My dear Annabella, how I wish I could change the past and give you back your parents. While I cannot, I do have some I information I promised your parents I would give to you once you turned eighteen. Unfortunately, it’s not of the comforting sort and I…” I took a deep breath. “I am so very sorry to have muddled any memories you have left.” I felt tears start to sting my eyes. She tilted her head a little. “Luna Mary, the only memories I have left are of the day they died. I honestly don’t think they can be muddled any worse than that.” She smiled a sad smile. I squeezed her hand and with a tear spilling out, “I wish that were true, darling.”
