Chapter 15It was a strange day. Badger was in uniform, so we had to say our goodbyes on his street, lest we get spotted together and I wind up harangued by curious witnesses once he took off. Or worse, cops. We didn’t kiss. We stood nearly toe to toe, and he said something like, “I guess I’ll see you when I see you,” and I agreed. Then he rode off, and I headed for Davis to start the long train ride back to JP. When I emerged from the Green Street stop, I finally switched on my phone. I had four messages.
