Chapter 31

2537 Words

Chapter 31Alec was right. I did go. I was a nervous wreck the entire train ride, though, and was glad it was cold so I could wear my coat over the jacket, barely bold enough to let the striped hood drape from under my collar. The lock on the building’s main door was duct-taped flat, and I went inside, followed by a young guy on a bike, a plastic Walgreens bag of who-knew-what dangling from his handlebar. I led the way up to the vast room, where I was pretty sure I’d taken freshman-year Form Study. What I found waiting there took my breath away. So many people. At least fifty, and it wasn’t even six yet. There were hooded sweatshirts draped everywhere, cans of spray paint, bikes leaning against every surface, jugs of wine and Solo cups, several iPhones set up in portable speaker docks.
