CHAPTER THIRTY-FIVE

2317 Words
“Do we really have to go, Trevor?” Isaac asked lazily. “I’m afraid so. And don’t forget to put uncle when identifying, ok?” Isaac nodded. “I don’t what you to end up calling me just Trevor like Erup.” “I wish we could have stayed here a bit longer,” Isaac said and took a bite from his apple. “Yeah, it’s really relaxing. But I’m sure everyone at home a worried sick. We have been here all day. Look, it’s already eighteen hours. Get up,” he said and stood up. Isaac got up from the chair, then Trevor waved his wand and the chairs disappeared. It was like no one was even there. “Shall we?” Isaac nodded, “and remember no word about this to anyone, ok?” “Yeah, I know. But we are coming here tomorrow again.” “No. Only once a week. And I’m not arguing about this,” he said after seeing Isaac opening his mouth to retort. “Let’s go.” He held the boy’s hand and shadow walked. Then seconds later appeared in the living room. Everyone was sitting there. Loveness was pacing. But it looked like no one paid any attention to her. “Where the hell have you two been?” Loveness asked, and they all whirled to look at Trevor and Isaac. “We have been worried sick here!” She scolded. “She means, she has been worried sick,” Justine corrected. “You worry too much. I and Isaac just went for a walk. Right boy?” Isaac nodded. Trevor and Isaac went and sat down on the same couch. After a few minutes, Mutale asked. “Where did you both go? Because I’m sure you didn’t spend all day looking at Mrs. Sinkala.” “Well, thank you for bringing that up,” Isaac ran upstairs. But Trevor knew perfectly well that the boy was not crying, which was a relief. “Mutale, keep your assumptions to yourself sometimes. Look what you just did. The boy was fine, but you just had to remind him about his grandmother’s death,” Justine scolded. “I was just asking,” Mutale spoke. “Well, sometimes keeping quiet is all you gotta do,” Erup said. “Forget it. It’s already done. Sebastian, tell me more about that shadow bastard. That attacked the werewolves last night,” Trevor said, looking from the boys to Sebastian. “Damn, it was very hard to beat that ass. It’s like black smoke. But you can still punch it. It feels the same pain, just like us. And I think it comes at night so it can spook itself on werewolves when they least expect it,” Sebastian explained. “And I think something about my ring made it disappear. But I’m not sure though,” he added. “That’s nice. And I’m sorry I wasn’t there to help you. Maybe we could have even killed that bastard if I was there.” “I defeated it on my own, thank you. And you have problems of your own. So I will deal with this alone. You have matters to attend to as well.” “I didn’t imply that, you, i***t. I meant if we worked together, killing it would have been a piece of cake. And you are busy helping me to fight my battles. So I will surely help you with yours. Even if you like it or not,” he enunciated the last words. “And speaking of problems. I have questions that those two bastards have to answer,” he got up. “Should I......” “I will deal with this one alone.” “Father, can we come? We can get into their heads,” Justine said. “Or mother is a seer she can read their minds for you,” Mutale suggested, looking at Loveness. “And give them a chance to be closer to you? No way. I will get the answers in one way or the other,” without waiting any longer, he winked out of sight. Seconds later, he appeared in Santa’s dan. The two academies were sleeping. Or did they just close their eyes? Only one way to find out. “Hey, Death and Hope,” he said. But none of them moved, so he went closer to them. “Do you still think you are sleeping?” A dark smile crept over his face. “Well, with such a disturbing bastard on our tail, I don’t think we will ever sleep,” Death spoke, looking at Trevor. “I can’t help it. I really enjoy the company of your bastards. Don’t tell Sebastian that. Anyway, how have been today? I have been busy I didn’t come and see how you are doing,” he moved closer to them. “With that attitude, we will never be fine,” Hope looked at Trevor. The poor man was seconds from screaming on top of his lungs. There was a pause for a few minutes. Then Trevor took two steps backward. “Is this enough or I should move a little?” Trevor asked. “A bit more,” Death said, and Trevor took two more steps back. “Much better. Now, what the hell do you want? I’m certain you didn’t come here to just great us.” “I just came to great you. I mean, we are getting along for the past few days. So I was just trying to be a good friend by coming here so we can chat a bit,” I pulled a nearby chair and sat. Then, as he noticed a creep doll on top of him, he moved a bit to the left. “We should have known. You can never come here for just a mare greeting,” Hope said. “Take it all, leave it. Anyway, after you told me about my father been an academy. I went and confronted Emit and Hephzibah. Then after they confirmed the news, I had no choice but to threw them out of my house.......” “That was a bored move, man,” Hope interrupted. “I know that now, Hope thanks. But two more women decided to be supportive and followed Emit and Hephzibah. But when I went to bring them back, someone was quick before me.” “They have been kidn*pped, isn’t it? And you need us for?” Death said. “No. They are dead. Someone killed them. In the same manner. I need you to help me locate the murderer,” he got up from the chair. “Hard pass. I don’t want to get involved,” Hope said and looked away. “I’m not giving you a choice, Hope. I need you to tell me if you know about, a person who leaves a dark mark around your neck like a ring. And then minutes later your heart disappears,” he went closer to them. The only language they understood is violence. It’s like talking peacefully with them was just a share worst of time. Both Death and Hope’s faces began changing as Trevor went closer to them. “Listen Death, we just agreed that cowardly behaviors are not allowed. Didn’t we?” Trevor asked, directing his gaze at Death. “Well, yeah. But I don’t know anyone who leaves such marks after killing someone. And getting involved in your fights means I will dig my own grave,” Death said. “I will stop being an ass on you. Please Hope I need you guys. And don’t forget, you bastards are the reason I chased them out of my house. So their death is on you.” After a few minutes, Trevor whirled and began walking around Santa’s dan. Leaving both the men to think about the offer. He took a turn and went out of their sight. His eyes kept on widening as he was looking around the place for the most dangerous things his ancestors had. Then he came across something that caught his eyes more. He stopped at stared at it. It was a creep-ass doll that you shouldn’t even think of gazing at. But he just couldn’t control himself. Then as he was looking at it. The doll began stretching its smile. Then it blinked a few seconds later Trevor jumped back in awe. “What the heck did you bastard do?” He looked at it even more. Then, after some time, he resumed his walk. Surprisingly, the room was bigger that it looked when you just enter. It was like it kept on increasing as you go further. Then the back of his hair stood up as he reached the section with knights. But instead of them being in their shining armor, they were stones. Like status. Then, as he began walking between the nights, he jumped to his toes as one of the knights spoke. He turned, but their mouths were sealed. He brushed the thought where and carried on walking. “If it’s Trevor. The son of our enemy. Have you come here to rub it on us?” The night to the left spoke. Trevor turned, but to his surprise, all the knights’ mouths were sealed. “Who said that?” His voice echoed in the passage wall. “It was me, boy,” the night in front of him said, but his mouth was still sealed. “Dude, how can you speak without moving your lips?” Trevor asked and moved closer to the knight. “Because your filthy grandfather, had to turn us into status,” the knight responded. “Damn.......” Before he could even complete his sentence, something groaned in the room about thirty to fifty feet ahead of him. He looked at the night again as if hoping the knight will be generous to escort him. “You know that this place is full of dangerous things and yet you brought those two bastards here,” the knight to the left of the knight speaking earlier spoke. “What are you talking about?” He asked, but his concentration was still at the door ahead of him. “Hope and Death you i***t,” the night snapped. “Do any of you bastards know what the hell is in there?” He asked, ignoring the knights’ comment. “It’s a little puppy,” the knight responded, and they all burst out laughing. “Are you done or do you want to keep on telling yourselves that one day you will be freed?” He asked as the laughter died down. “Anyway I will find out for myself. You assholes deserve this punishment. And if you provoke me more, I won’t think twice before killing you. I hate nonsense. And I’m not my grandfather.” Without waiting for their reply, he began walking towards the door ahead. His heart kept on hammering faster with each pacing step. Then, as he reached the door, he touched the doorknob and sighed. Silently debating if he should go in or not. “Just go in, will you?” The knight to his left said. “What is there? I don’t like surprises,” he turned to look at the knight. “As they have told you, it’s a puppy.” “Come on. A puppy can’t groan that loudly. It has to be something big. Not to forget vicious.” “Why don’t you find out for yourself? Since you don’t want to believe us,” the knight said. He turned to the well varnished wooden door, with a silver doorknob. Then sighed again and pushed the door. The room was very dark he couldn’t see a thing. And the only light coming from the other room stopped as the door shut behind him. Then he heard something sniff loudly. The hair at the back of his neck stood. He called to his wand and immediately waved it. The tip of it got lit. But it was of no use. He can barely see five four feet from him. What if he bumps into whatever was groaning and it eats him? What was it? And how huge was it? There was no telling if he didn’t turn on the lights. But where the hell were the light switches? He began moving straight hesitantly. His powers closer. Just in case things go south. And how the hell had he never been able to hear such a loud sound before? He kept on moving, his heart hammering at hyper-speed. The thing groaned again. And its voice echoed in the darkroom. But to Trevor’s surprise, it sounded more like a cry and not the groan of anger. And though loud, the voice sounded like the thing was a good fifty feet from him. Was it worth it? Or he was just wasting time? Was he digging another grave? Will, whatever it was, turn out to be another pain on the neck? But something kept on pulling him to it. Though this shouldn’t be a surprise to him. Pulling danger closer to him was no surprising matter. So whatever he was doing might be somehow related to trouble.
