He peeled open his eyes, and it was already morning. He looked to the other side and Loveness was nowhere to be seen.
He got up and sat, the silky sheets slipping from his chest. Then after I few minutes he got up and went into the bathroom. He washed his face and brushed his teeth, then went out and applied face lotion.
Looking at the watch hanging on the wall, he realized it was already eight in the morning.
Then, before he could leave his bedroom, his phone rang on the table. He went over and Tandiwe was calling.
“Yes, Tandiwe. How are you?” He answered.
“I’m fine, sir. How are you?” She replied.
“I’m fine as well, thank you. So how is the business moving along?” He opened the door and left the bedroom.
“Everything is fine. I just wanted to confirm if you are coming or not?”
“Er...” He took one step downstairs, “I think I will be there in a few hours.”
“Alright then. See you.”
“See you Tandiwe,” and he hung up.
He finally reached downstairs and Sebastian was sitting in the living room. All dressed up in a dark blue suit and black vans. As Trevor examined Sebastian even more, he saw that Sebastian also wore a diamond watch.
“Where are you going?” He asked as he reached the living room and sat down on the opposite couch.
“I’m going for interviews,” Sebastian replied.
“I don’t remember you telling me about any interviews.”
“That’s because I didn’t. I only saw the advertisement last night. They are looking for a bean counter at Zanaco bank,” he looked at his wristwatch.
“That’s good. Do you still have time? I need to visit the cafe as well,” Trevor got up.
“I have about thirty minutes. So if you will hurry then we might go together.”
“Sure, I will be right back.”
He charged to the stairs and then into his bedroom. Since he bathed last night, he didn’t take long in the shower.
He put on a blue shirt and black trousers. Then completed the look with vans and a gold wristwatch.
After he finished, he rushed downstairs, and he was just in time.
“Let’s go,” he said as he reached where Sebastian was standing.
Just as he touched the doorknob, a woman called behind them.
“Aren’t you having breakfast?”
“No dear. We are late,” Trevor said and shot Loveness a pleasant smile.
“Not even coffee?”
“I’m sorry, dear, but we gotta go. See you later,” he opened the door, and they went out.
Sebastian rushed to the garage, while Trevor waited for just a few feet from the front door. Minutes later Sebastian came, driving Trevor’s BMW. Trevor got into the passenger’s seat and Sebastian took off.
They drove through Lusaka town. And the builds there were well built. Very clean and overall stunning. They passed over flyover bridge, then Levy junction, and after driving for a few miles they reached Zanaco bank.
“This is where I drop off,” Sebastian said as he packed the car.
“All the best,” Trevor said.
“Thanks. I will see you later. I think from here I might come to the cafe.”
“Alright,” was all Trevor could say.
Sebastian got out and Trevor moved to the driver’s seat. He started the engine and took off. After driving for a few miles, he jumped onto another road and took a right turn.
The cars filled the road, that if you are not careful, you might just cause an accident. So skillful driving might be needed. But luckily Trevor was one.
He took another turn into Caro road then drove straight, pacing through Kulima towel. He made another turn and after driving for a few minutes, he reached the ‘mood lift cafe.’
He drove and packed in his reserved parking lot and got out of the car.
Mr. Jemison was sitting in his usual seat, near the cafe door. With a blue, huge umbrella on top of him. His smile stretched as he saw Trevor approaching.
“Morning, Mr. Jamison,” Trevor said as he reached the old man.
“Morning Trevor. Hope you are doing ok?” Mr. Jamison said.
“I’m ok thank you. And how have you been?”
“Well, I’m trying.”
“And I think today we are visiting your house. So you should tell your children to meet us. I think.......... Around six in the evening.”
“I still think I should be the one to talk to them,” Mr. Jamison said while looking down.
“You have had your chances. And those ungrateful bastards still act the same. So I think if I and Sebastian talk to them, they might listen. You are too old to work and be sitting in the sun. You are supposed to be relaxing and enjoying the fruits of your labor. Not like this,” Trevor said.
“If you say so. I’m going to call them right away,” he took his phone.
“Nice. I will be in the cafe. Give me an update after you talk to them, ok?” Mr. Jamison just nodded. “We will talk later than.”
He opened the door to the cafe, and a bell rang, alarming everyone that someone has entered the cafe.
It was well decorated. Colored in light blue, with some shades of orange on the edges. The tables and chairs were well vanished. A chandelier hung loosely in the ceiling, with diamond glitter decorations on it. Though antique, they looked at outstanding as most cafes in the city.
“Morning everyone,” he looked from the left side to the right side while smiling from ear to ear.
“Morning Trevor,” the people in the cafe shouted.
“We haven’t been seen you lately. Hope you are fine,” a woman about Mrs. Sikala’s age asked.
“Everything is fine, thanks for asking. I have just been busy with a couple of things,” I replied for only her to hear.
“Oh, nice. But keep a lookout for your competitors.”
“Yes, mom I will, thanks for the heads up. If you don’t mind I will see you later,” he dipped his head.
“Sure.”
Just as he entered his office and sat, someone knocked on the door.
“Come in,” he said while going through the files on the table. He looked up as the door opened. Tandiwe entered. “Hey Tandiwe,” he said and returned to the files.
“I thought you will be coming late then this,” she said.
“So that you can have time with your boyfriend?” He gestured for her to sit down.
“No sir. And he is not my boyfriend, we are just friends,” she pulled a chair and sat down.
“We will see. Anyway, tell me how the business has been?”
“Well, customers are coming for sure. The cafe is forever full nowadays.”
“Nice. Continue working like this, and you will be the one handling the other cafe we are building.”
“Are you serious sir,” she smiled wider.
“Yeah,” he shot her a smile.
“Thank you so much, sir. You won’t regret it.”
“I hope so. And what is that in your hands?”
“Oh, it is the accountant’s file. We are approaching the end of the month, so you should go through the figures,” she handed Trevor a brownish file.
“Alright, I will. Thanks,” he took it and put it on top of the files to his left.
“And have you talked to that Levison friend of yours?” She asked.
“No, why?”
“Nothing, I was just asking. Maybe they might have changed a few things. And I just thought I should be aware of it.”
“If they do, you will be the one to know, madam,” he looked up at her grinning.
“Sir, I’m too young to be called that. Miss will do if you don’t mind,” she pushed her hair backward in a dramatic way.
“Oh, please. And don’t you have work to do?”
“Oh,” she got up.
“Tell someone to bring me tea.”
“Sure,” she opened the door and closed it behind her softly.
As he was going through the files, he reached the one where it was written, Levison.
Levison was Trevor and Sebastian’s friend. But ever since they completed their school, they have never seen each other. Until Trevor found out that he was the investor who wants to invest in his cafe not too long ago.
Levison being a shapeshifter, Sebastian thought the man used that to work his way through the ladder of success.
Then a thought floated on top of Trevor that knocked him out of the Levison thought.
His so-called cousin.
Could he really be his cousin? And if that is the case, why was he locked inside Santa’s dan? And who locked him there?
What did he mean about the house speaking? Could the house really speak? But that wouldn’t be as shocking. Judging by the life he lived, his house talking wouldn’t be as terrifying. The only thing he knows is a computer has been put in the house for training purposes. Could that be the one his so-called cousin was talking about?
And he also claimed that the house was supposed to be his and not Trevor’s. And what kind of powers does he have? If he can turn into a mutant dog, then he can do much more. Even worse not to forget.
So going to see his cousin was something to be added to his to-do list.
