“I hope you all have become aquatinted with each other. I'll show you to the washrooms where you will also be given new clothes better suited for the trip. We will need to keep you hidden under cloaks because there is a group of people who are resistant to our arrangement with Earth.“
He rubs his chin in deep thought for a moment and looks to Helm then back to us. A look of worry passes over Helms face, “You need to know, the summonings are outdated and barbaric. The high council has recently taken it into their own hands to bring back old traditions. We want to know who gains what by having the old ways reinstated.”
Based off of Helms expression he does not want us to know this information but Valtor has decided to tell us anyway. Something inside me warms at that thought. I also see this as an opportunity to get some answers.
I clear my throat, all eyes turn to me.
“What do you mean by barbaric?” I ask.
Valtor looks at me seriously and responds,”It’s a fight to the death. I don’t believe its a coincidence that the summonings are being called to action after decades of them being abolished. Something bigger is at play here.”
“It sounds like they’re taking advantage of this opportunity to try to get rid of someone.” I say.
Helm speaks now,“That much we’ve gathered and we have some ideas on who they want dead but we need to know who is behind this and what their end game is.”
I think this over for a moment and
“May I give my opinion on the matter?”
Valtor nods.
“Once this is sorted out and the summonings are no more, I suggest that the unions be mutual between Sulvarians and Earth women. Given the chance we Earth woman may surprise you. Im willing to bet many of the women would sign up to meet men from Sylvaria. In other words create a new contract,“ I turn to Hazel, ”has anything like this been discussed before.“
Hazel nods a no. ”Not to its full capacity but the negotiators would definitely consider, especially if their hand is forced. I wouldn't know how to do that though.“
Cronus sneers,” We could kill them, the men of your planet are small and weak.“ he shrugs.
”I’m a journalist and I know better than anyone that a good story speaks for itself. No violence necessary.“ I shoot Cronus a thoughtful look. ”All we have to do is find a way to broadcast your message and give the people of Earth irrefutable evidence that you are real and not a hoax. It will be out of the governments hands once people know they have a choice.“
Valtor beams a smile at me. ”That is a great plan but we have to get close enough to the resistance to make this planet safe for humans first. We need them to change their mind. That is part of the reason why you ladies are here.“
I sigh closing my eyes and understand his words,”So, what you mean is we’re the bait. They will come for us.“ its not a question.
”Yes, and we need you to know because its easier to keep you safe if we are transparent with you. We need you to trust us.“ He looks at me with an intense expression, meeting only my eyes.
“Helm is part of the high council and has asked me to assemble my best men for the job. Your in the best hands this planet has to offer, guaranteed.” His stare is still on me, reaffirming to me that he is revealing this information to gain my trust.
“What if your mission fails or doesn't go as planned?” I ask.
“Then we will fight for you in anyway we need to keep you safe,” without a doubt they all nod in agreement.
“And when this is all over, will you allow us to choose to go back to earth?” I ask hopeful that I will see my home planet again.
Valtors jaw ticks and I see something primal rear its head. His eyes flash bright yellow at me. He looks pissed that I would even ask that question but its a completely reasonable question.
His eyes narrow on me and a growl emits from him. He balls his fists and squeezes his eyes shut like he is holding himself together. The man named Hail comes to his side and reaches out to touch his shoulder. Almost instantly Valtor relaxes and his eyes go back to his milder orange and yellow hues.
He cracks his neck and lets out a breath of tension then pins me with his gaze,“For them, yes. For you, no.” His eyes flash yellow for a moment when he says,“You’re mine Allura.”
Out of nowhere a jolt of pain in my heart brings me to my knees. I grab my chest wincing. I suddenly want to cry or get really f*****g pissed. Somehow I know these feelings aren't coming from me. The waves of emotion crash over me like a tsunami, becoming unbearable.
Valtor rushes to my side and gets down on his knees coming to meet me at eye level.
Without turning Valtor roars the order,“Leave us, I will take care of her.”
Hesitantly they all leave and Camilla puts up a fight for me on the way out. Hail having to drag her out. “She’s not yours! She is her own damn person. f**k you! She will make her own damn choice or she will hate you!” she mumbles off a few more things as her voice becomes distant being replaced by rage washing over my senses.
“Make…it…stop, …please.” I can barely get the words out.
He takes my hands in his giant ones and places one over his heart and one over his temple. Our hands stay entangled.
The physical contact seems to lessen the impact of the emotional trauma crashing over me.
“Whats happening? tell me the truth Valtor. I just met you, this kind of thing doesn't make sense to me.“ I take slow calming breaths.
”Im sorry, my beast channeled you because Hail cut him off from me. I didn't realize that would happen or that I even could.“ He looks at me and tucks my hair behind my ear. ”Are you okay?“ He is being gentle and sincere again.
”What… what do you mean beast?“ I ask feeling faint and weak.
”I’ll explain but lets go somewhere else.“
He picks me up and cradles me against him. The blast of emotions completely draining the remaining energy I have left. My eyes drift and my last realization is I feel safe and warm wrapped in these strong arms.
