The Next Day
Belinda’s POV
She had just returned from her morning run. Checking her wristwatch, she saw it was already 6:00 AM. She went straight to the bathroom to shower and brush her teeth, this her usual morning routine.
When she came out, she found her husband still lying on the couches.
“Good morning, honey,” she said, forcing a smile.
“Morning,” Jackson muttered, getting up and heading into the bathroom to take his bath.
Belinda shakes her head and adjusts her hair bonnet as she goes into the kitchen to prepare breakfast.
“Charles! Charles!” she called from the kitchen, trying to wake her son. There was no response. After carrying the breakfast over to the dining table, she walked into Charles’s room and opened the door.
“Charles, are you not going to school today?”
“Good morning, Mum,” Charles groaned, stretching himself on the bed.
“Morning, sweetheart. Get up and go take a shower. Remember, you said you and your team have a presentation today.”
“Holy Mary!” Charles exclaimed, suddenly remembering. “I have forgotten about that, you’re the best Mum,” he winked at his mum, as he dashed into the bathroom.
“Do fast and come out—breakfast is ready,” Belinda said as she closed the door behind him.
She returned to the sitting room and found Jackson standing in front of their Nespresso machine.
“Let me help you with that,” she offered, reaching for the hot cup to take it to the dining table.
“No,” Jackson said coldly, rejecting her offer outright without sparing her a glance.
“Honey, I’m so sorry for what happened last night. Please forgive me,” she said, remorse written all over her face.
“No need for apologies, Belinda,” Jackson replied casually. He pulled out his phone and looked at it.
“I can take it to get repaired for you,” she said, reaching out to take the phone from him.
“No, you don’t have to. I’d rather buy a new one than waste money fixing it.” He shoved the smashed phone back into his pocket.
“Good morning, Dad,” Charles greeted his father as he came out of his room, struggling to knot his tie—the one thing that always seemed to give him trouble. “I’m ready to go, Mum.”
Belinda forced a smile and turned to her son. “Oh, my baby boy… are you ready?”
“Yes, Mum. Are you dropping me today,” Charles asked, looking over at his dad, who was calmly sipping his coffee, “or will Dad be doing that?”
“No, son. Your mother will drive you,” Jackson said, picking up his briefcase. “I have a very tight schedule today.” He walked out without another word to his wife.
“Mum,” Charles asked, curiosity clear on his face, “are you two okay?”
Belinda patted his shoulder. “It’s nothing to worry about. Eat your breakfast so you won't be late.”
“Alright, Mum. I’m on it.”
Charles sat down immediately and ate quickly.
A few minutes later,he’s done eating and he called out to Belinda “Let’s go, Mum—I’m done,” he said, wiping his mouth.
“Go and wait for me outside. I’ll lock up the doors,” Belinda replied.
“Okay, Mum. Please don’t take long.”
“I won’t, baby,” she said, offering another forced smile.
A few minutes later, they were on their way to school in Belinda’s small Golf—the same car she’d been driving since she married Jackson. She had never complained about wanting a new one; she preferred living quietly, without drawing attention to herself.
As she drove, her mind raced with ideas on how to make things up to her husband. She wanted to stop him from being angry with her, even though she knew deep down that the problems between them were mostly his fault. Still, she didn’t want to lose him over an early morning argument. For the past two years, things hadn’t been good between them, but they had at least managed to live without constant fighting.
“Mum, I hope you’re okay?” Charles asked from the back seat.
Belinda glanced briefly at him in the rear-view mirror. “Yes, baby… I’m okay.”
“I’m not so sure,” Charles said. “I’ve been calling you, but you didn’t answer. Anyway,” he continued, not waiting for her reply, “can we pick up a girl from school today, please?”
“A girl from school?” Belinda asked, locking eyes with her son in the mirror.
“Yes, Mum,” Charles smiled, nervously scratching his head.
“It’s fine, baby. Anything to make you happy,” Belinda said with a genuine smile, immediately understanding what’s happening. She turned her attention back to the road. A few minutes later, they picked up Evelyn and continued toward the school.
Jackson’s POV
He drove into the company parking lot in his newly purchased, black Mercedes-GLE 53 AMG, stepping out with confidence before heading into the building.
The office was buzzing with activity, workers busy with their tasks across various departments as usual.
“Good morning, sir!”
“Good morning, sir!”
Jackson merely nodded at the greetings as he walked toward the stairs leading to his private office.
Inside, he found Angela, his mistress who is also his PA, sitting calmly on his desk—but her calmness looked nothing like peace. She looked furious.
“Don’t tell me you didn’t see my text earlier today,” Angela said the moment he stepped into the office—no greeting, no softness.
Jackson ignored her. He walked straight to his chair, sat down, and pulled out his broken phone, dropping it on the desk right in front of her.
Angela stared at the shattered phone, then looked up at him. “Who broke your phone?”
“My wife and I had an issue because of your text this morning,” Jackson said, clearly irritated. “Why would you text me like that when you know I’ll be with her in bed sleeping?”
“That was exactly why I texted you then,” Angela snapped, standing up from the desk. “I wanted you to know I’m still standing by what we discussed over the weekend. Either you divorce your wife and love me publicly, or we end everything right here, right now.”
Jackson leaned back in his chair, amused despite the tension.
“Are you sure you want to end things with me?” he asked, a cocky smirk tugging at his lips.
Angela avoided his eyes, staying silent.
Jackson stood up and walked over to her. Placing a hand on her shoulder, he firmly guided her back against the desk and pressed closer. “Why aren’t you saying anything?” he demanded.
Angela still kept her gaze away from his face.
“Answer me,” he murmured, positioning himself directly over her. He parted her legs, stepping between them, and gripped her face tightly so she couldn’t look away. “You want to end things, huh?”
He leaned in until his breath brushed against her skin. Angela closed her eyes and bit her lip, trying hard to hold back the sound threatening to escape her throat.
Jackson smiled with satisfaction at the effect he had on her. He gently trailed a finger over her lips, and she couldn't suppress a soft moan.
Jackson smirked, gripping her possessively by the neck as he slammed his lips against hers.
