That same day, in the night.
Belinda’s POV
She stepped out of the bedroom dressed in a short red gown that hugged her body perfectly. She’s putting on red high heels that matched her outfit. Her face was lightly made up. She looked gorgeous, and her hair was styled in a messy ponytail.
She called out for her son. “Charles! Come here, please!”
“Okay, Mum. Give me a second, I’m coming,” Charles shouted back from his room.
Just then, the front door opened and Jackson walked into the sitting room.
“Why are you just coming back now?” Belinda asked him. “I thought you said your company had a party tonight.”
“Yes, we have,” Jackson replied. “I had to put some things together with Peter before coming home. I see you’re all dressed up. Just give me a few minutes—let me take a shower and get changed too.”
He picked up his briefcase from the cushion where he had dropped it earlier and headed toward the bedroom. On his way, he bumped into his son.
“Dad, good evening,” Charles greeted him.
“Charles, how are you doing?” Jackson smiled briefly.
“I’m fine, Dad.” Charles walked over to his mother, his eyes full of admiration. “Mum, you called me? Wow, where are you going? You look so beautiful. You should always dress like this, even if it’s only twice a month.”
“Thank you, my baby. I’ll do my best,” she said, playfully saluting him. Both of them laughed heartily. Her son is the person that makes her truly happy these days, and she can’t help but to be grateful to God.
“Me and your father are going to a party his company is hosting tonight.” Charles nodded.
“Don’t worry we’re going to come back on time,” she said with a smile. Before Charles could say something Jackson joined them immediately, completely dressed. “Let’s go so we won’t be late,” he said to Belinda.
Then he turned to Charles. “I’m sure your mum has told you where we’re going tonight. Take good care of yourself, son. We’ll be back soon.”
“Yes, Dad. You both should be careful, please.”
“No problem, son,” Belinda said, pecking his cheek as she and Jackson left the house.
While they were inside the car, Belinda decided to ask him some questions. “So, Jack__,” she began, “you decided to leave for work this morning without informing anyone.” Jackson looked at her without saying anything. “ And lately, you don’t eat at home anymore except for your morning coffee. Tell me—what is going on that I don’t know about?”
“Nothing is going on,” Jackson replied nonchalantly. “I’ll eat at home whenever I feel like doing that.”
“Okay,” Belinda muttered, turning to look out the window.
Twenty-five minutes later, they arrived at the venue. The hall was already filled with people.
Jackson’s POV
He walked into the hall with his wife right beside him.
Peter spotted him and called out, “Hey man! I was just about to call your phone.” He noticed Belinda and he turned to her. “Hi, Belinda,” Peter said, smiling slightly at her. She smiled back without saying anything.
“I’m here now,” Jackson said to Peter. “Is the MC here yet?”
Peter nodded. “He just arrived a few minutes ago.”
“Alright. See you later,” Jackson said to Belinda. “Let me go and make sure everything is good before we start the party.”
He walked away with Peter, Belinda watched him leave as she looked around for a perfect spot for her to sit down.
Jackson went straight into his office. Angela was already waiting for him there, sitting on his desk as usual.
“My darling,” he said, checking her out. “You look so hot.”
Angela rolled her eyes. “I saw you walk in with your wife.”
“Yeah,” Jackson shrugged. “I actually invited her so that I can sleep peacefully at home without her bothering me with unnecessary questions. Because I know she would have definitely found out about this party if I didn’t bring her, and I don’t want any drama that’ll follow suit.”
“Whatever,” Angela rolled her eyes. “By the way, how do I look?” She turned around slowly for him, showing off her short, black, sleeveless gown that’s showing all her curves.
“You don’t need to ask,” Jackson said. “You look absolutely sumptuous and sweet.” He stepped closer and whispered into her ear, his hot breath touching her skin. “I want to eat you up right here and now on this desk.”
“Oh, daddy please, not now. The party is about to start,” Angela said, blushing hard.
Just then, the MC’s voice boomed over the speakers outside.
“Okay, it’s time to go,” Jackson said. He gave her ass a firm squeeze. Angela bit her lower lip sexily and winked at him. She left the office first, and Jackson came out a few minutes later deliberately wasting time.
Belinda’s POV
Belinda sat quietly in a spot where she’d be able to get a proper view of everything happening at the party.
A waiter approached her. “Good evening, ma’am. What would you like to drink?”
“Oh, any drink with zero alcohol will be appreciated, please,” Belinda said, smiling at the young man.
“Okay, ma’am. I’ll be right back,” the waiter said.
As the waiter placed the drink in front of her, the MC began speaking over the microphone, telling everyone to take their seats because the event was about to begin.
The MC then called the owners of the company—Jackson and Peter—to come up and give their opening remarks and votes of thanks. Jackson and Peter climbed onto the podium, waving and smiling as the crowd clapped.
Peter took the microphone first to thank everyone for coming. After that, Jackson took the mic from him. But instead of just thanking the guests, Jackson began praising his PA, speaking about how hardworking and diligent she had always been since he employed her.
“She is never late to work, and she always carries the whole team along,” Jackson announced proudly, with a broad smile.
Some of the workers in the crowd rolled their eyes, while others openly hissed at his words.
Belinda felt a slight pain. It had been a very long time since she saw her husband smiling like this.
“I will have to call up my wonderful personal assistant—the kind of assistant every CEO would wish to have in their workspace,” Jackson continued, “I want everyone to see her clearly.
Everyone started clapping except Belinda who continued watching everything going on. Angela walked gracefully up to the stage, smiling and waving at the crowd.
“Now, let’s raise our glasses for a toast,” Jackson said to the room. Everyone raised their drinks. “A toast to this successful project and to many more in the future!”
When he finished speaking, the guests clinked their glasses together and began to drink. The DJ started playing music as the people started dancing while others chatted with one another.
Belinda kept watching as her husband and his PA smiled sweetly at each other. Nobody needed to tell her the truth anymore; it was obvious these two were in love. The realization pained her deeply. She slowly pulled out her handkerchief and dabbed her teary eyes to avoid the tears rolling down her cheeks. She watched as Angela took her spotlight.
“Look at me sitting here like I don’t matter,” she muttered sadly to herself, almost regretting coming to the party. “But, there’s no room for any regret till I confirm what I came here for,” she finalized within herself.
As the party continued, she still kept her eyes glued to them. She noticed how Angela kept smiling smugly at everyone they greeted, and Belinda hissed. She sipped her drink gradually, without taking her eyes off them.
Angela’s POV
Oh, how I love it when Jackson makes me the center of attention in front of everyone tonight, Angela said to herself with a proud smile. And I know that woman has seen me—her replacement—already. A wicked smirk formed on her face.
She leaned in close and whispered into Jackson’s ear, “Baby, please. I’m tired of smiling and greeting all these people. Let’s go up to the office and rest.”
“Alright, honey. Let me go upstairs and wait for you, okay?” Jackson whispered back.
“Yeah, go on. I’ll join you shortly.” She gave him a knowing smile and walked toward the bar to grab two glasses of wine for them.
