Letter From Mrs Freya: Group 1962

Dear Elizabeth,

Congratulations on your child. I would tell you not to fear but I would be lying to you. My first child was a son so I cannot tell you what it will be like to have your first taken from you. My second was a girl though, she was taken from me when she was only a year in age. Though it brought me hope at the time, to know she would not start competing till she is 5. She will be 3 this year, in June. It is upsetting that she will never meet her older brother, who turns 4 this year, as well that he will not remember her.

It is not a subject we are prepared for, loosing them. We are told that they will have a good life at the institution and that they will flourish, become perfect like you, then live a life full of wealth. That is rarely the case. My daughters name is Haven, she will be in the group 3 above your daughter (if you have one). I had not been able to pull myself our of grief the many mouths after she was taken and now I fear I will go through it again. It’s twins I’m told. One boy, who I wish to call Dane, and sadly, a girl, who I wish to call Maria. She would be in the same year as your child if your child is in fact a girl. You could always check.

My master has always been out, I do not see him much. But it brings me comfort to know your letters will not be read by him before I receive them. My bedroom is my confinement so I could not tell you able to you about the world, having not been in it myself. I do wonder though, about what it would be like.

Your crops sound like an amazing change to the drab boring, nothingness of my room, but I do think you should work in them once you are able to again. Your room always was swimming with plants. I remember walking in and there were flowers and herbs and fruit just everywhere. It had the most amazing scent. Wish I could have bottled it up. Though I was always surprised that you never got kicked out for it. Maybe you were the favourite.

I’m glad that you found me again after the 5 years we were apart. Continue writing to me please? Tell me of the outside world?
