“How’d the doctor visit go yesterday?” For once, I dreaded having dinner with Jonah, knowing he’d ask the prevailing question about my health. We sat at the Italian restaurant down the street from the Scarlet Maple. Feeling better, I had a craving for pasta. I cast my eyes on the checkered table cloth in front of my place setting. I’d have to tread carefully to answer without lying, and I certainly wasn’t ready to share my ordeal. “The doctor doesn’t think it’s food poisoning.
