Eve’s POV The morning light filtered softly through the half-drawn curtains, pale and slow, touching the edge of the bed where Ryan’s side lay untouched. Eve turned toward it instinctively. Cold. Of course it was. He hadn’t slept there. Old habits die hard, she thought to herself, staring at the empty space. Ryan had never really liked sharing a room with her. Even when he had, there had been an invisible line drawn down the bed, a border she wasn’t allowed to cross. She lay still for a while, letting the quiet wrap around her.
