Lia breaks down while I just stand there, shocked by this revelation. I knew Rene was crazy, but I never expected this. How does one even think of coming up with something this cruel? And the fact that Lia believed I would do something like that; I can’t even fathom right now.
I slide down to the floor and join her. “Baby,” I call her, gently placing my hand on her back, “she lied to you. Rene was never pregnant.”
“I saw… the...pictures, Chris. I saw them,” she speaks through her sobs, her head still buried between her knees.
“That’s impossible baby, Rene was never pregnant… they had to have belonged to someone else or from before I met her,” I tell her, and she raises her head, looking at me.
