It was all so tantalisingly close.
Then he was on her.
She felt something loop around her neck, Herbert’s beefy fist clenching as he pulled it – pulled it – tighter and tighter. Her face was doused in a wash of heat. Her eyesight blurred. She thought she caught sight of the train in the distance, but it was quickly obscured by the trees which lined the tracks as they crowded her field of vision. She realised she’d fallen sideways; the crushing force of pressure Herbert had exerted had knocked her off balance.
