Amelie

1976 Words
It was just before dawn, on one of the first mornings of Spring, and Amelie was getting ready to start her pack duties. She was an Omega in the Imperial Pack. Amelie was 15 years old, 5'8' in height and her slim frame made her look even taller. She had long, thick, brown hair and deep green eyes. Her tan skin was like the rest of the packs only slight darker because of the time she would spend working in the outdoors. She wore a plain, mid-length, navy blue dress over which she wore a white apron. As she looked at herself in the mirror; she patted away a couple of creases, scraped back her hair and secured it all into a bun. Grabbing her knapsack and stepping out of her room within the pack house, she ran to the kitchen. Working in the main pack house, her day began around 5am when she got up and prepared breakfast for the pack with three other Omegas. They would meet in the main pack house kitchen every morning as usual, greet each other over a cup of tea or coffee and then go about their routine. This day was a bit more special as one of the Omegas turned 18 years old. This is an important age for a werewolf, as this is when they mature. They connect with their wolf at the age of 17 and if they are fortunate, they also find their mate the following year. All of them that worked in the kitchen had been praying hard to the Moon Goddess that Hazel would find her mate. They knew that should she not find her mate; she would have to participate in the army programme, and they didn't want that. They had heard the horrors of that kind of life and they didn't want any part of it. Hazel had a month to find her mate and if she was successful, she would be spared. They had been lucky as a group as Bianca and Dahlia had found their mates too. If Hazel found her mate, it would just leave Amelie. Amelie had a very clear idea of what happened to unmated Omegas in the pack. Her father Doctor Christian Conway was part of the team that had designed the programme, he had the science that made it possible. She was hoping she would be spared; her father was very well respected in the pack and community as a whole and even though that didn't extend to her, she remained hopeful. Breakfast consisted of eggs, bacon, sausages and toast along with fruit and porridge, although the menu wasn't particularly extensive, when cooking for over 1000 mouths it became a chore. Breakfasts happened in rounds. The warriors would come first thing in the morning around 6 o'clock from patrol duty the previous night or the ones on their way to training. This would be followed by the young families at 7 o'clock whose parents needed to get their pups to school and themselves to work. The final round at 8 o'clock were the families with older children and the senior pack members. Thankfully, everything was self-service and there were other male Omegas who arrived later to help with the refilling, cleaning and heavy-duty work. Hazel kept going out into the dining area and checking the food trays were full; she was also waiting for her wolf to reveal her mate. She had a month of this stress before her fate was sealed and it was making her very uneasy. Then, suddenly, the scent of mangoes and vanilla filled the air and she turned around to see a tall warrior looking ready to eat her. "MINE!" came a growl and he scooped her up in his arms and took her to have breakfast with him, or maybe he just wanted to have her for breakfast instead. Amelie, Dahlia and Bianca looked on in relief, that Hazel was safe. They gestured at her to stay and spend the day with her mate. However, as they were now one person down they had to work a little faster to cope with the increasing demand for food. The Omegas that usually come to relieve them hadn't arrived yet and so between them they had to cook the food, refill and also clean the dishes. They managed to get through the warriors and the young family’s sittings by the skin of their teeth, but their busiest time was just about to start. Two of them kept the cooking going, while Amelie ran back and forth refilling and then washing the dishes between refills. Occasionally, Dahlia would help Amelie in refilling but there was still too much to do. Soon there was a queue forming in the dining hall and a riot was going to break out. Amelie brought out a trolley with more food items but before she could lay them out she was thrown aside and the trolley was ambushed. "About f*****g time Omega!" came an angry shout. Within a few minutes, all the food was gone and as she got to her feet to get more refills she was knocked down again and she hit her head on the wall skirting. "Who told you to get up Omega? Stay down there where you belong!" came a familiar snarl. Vanessa Williams was one of the popular girls in the pack, they were a few years apart and went to the same college and that was the only thing they had in common. Vanessa was few years older than Amelie. She was just stood there looming over her angrily and then she started kicking Amelie repeatedly. Amelie cried out in pain with each kick that was delivered and curled up into a ball. "They send you to school to study with us, but you can't even get breakfast right huh. You. Are. Abso. Lutely. Useless!" Vanessa shouted kicking her after each word. Some of her friends began to join in the assault. Eventually Amelie was in so much pain she couldn't even yelp anymore and the group lost interest in her. With their plates full, Vanessa and her posse walked away further into the dining hall, leaving Amelie lying on floor. Amelie could smell blood, and realised her head was bleeding. Not wanting to be found in this state by the senior pack members, she slowly got onto her knees, and clutching her stomach, she crawled back around towards the kitchen pushing the trolley haphazardly as she went. Unfortunately, the dizzy spell she was experiencing meant she didn't see the pack committee accompanied by the Alpha, Beta and Gamma approaching her. There was a resounding crash and some of the grease and condiments in the trolley and landed all over the Alpha and Beta; the Gamma managed to dodge it just in time. There was a moment of silence when Amelie looked up and realised in horror what had happened. She crawled, bloodied and bruised in front of the Alpha and bowed her head. "I-I'm so sorry Alpha. it was my mistake. I didn't see where I was going I," Before Amelie could finish the Alpha had already walked up to her and lifted her by the neck and slammed her against the wall and held her there for a minute. Amelie whimpered and choked, trying to look down at the floor in submission. The senior pack members gasped. "Clean up this mess now! I will not tolerate this level of stupidity!" he commanded sternly, dropping her to the floor in a heap, like the bag of bones that she was. Nero then took off his jacket, shirt and his trousers and threw them at Amelie. His Beta did the same. Amelie whimpered as the clothes hit her face, she didn't dare to look up. "I need all these clothes hand-washed and pressed by today 4pm sharp. If it is not done to my standards, you will be punished. If you are late, you will be punished. Now get out of my sight!" The Alpha and Beta, now wearing nothing but a pair of boxers, continued to walk with the group into the dining area and were greeted by some wolf whistles and cheers, followed by the senior pack committee. Amelie bundled the clothes up under one arm and then with the support of the trolley crawled back into the kitchen. When Dahlia and Bianca caught sight of Amelie they rushed to her aid. "Amelie! What happened? Who did this to you?" Dahlia asked, helping her to a chair. Bianca brought some ice for her head. Amelie shook her head slowly; she didn't have the strength to speak. Her stomach was hurting, her back and neck were sore, and her head was throbbing. She sat there in silence for a moment and then slowly got to her feet and motioned to the others to continue with their work as she did the same. Thankfully the other Omegas had arrived so it would be a little easier. They had apparently been called to a meeting by the Alpha and this explained their tardiness. "I'm so sorry we were late," Dylan, one of the Omegas said. "We couldn't refuse the Alpha." Bianca, Dahlia and Amelie nodded in understanding. They knew too well from the stories what refusing an Alpha entailed. By 08:30 Amelie's duties were done. Hanging up her apron, she cleaned herself up a little. After putting the Alpha and Beta's clothes to soak, she mind-linked her class teacher that she wouldn't make it into school today. Her teacher wasn't happy. Amelie was a bright student and despite attending only three days a week, because of her duties, she was doing very well to keep up with the rest of the class. "I have duties to perform for the Alpha Mr. Matthews, I promise to catch up," Amelie mind linked. "Ok, I'll leave today's notes and homework with your father," came the reply from her class teacher. "Thank you sir." Sat in the steamy, sweltering laundry room, Amelie scrubbed the Alpha's and Beta's clothes until they were brand new. She even put in a little extra fabric conditioner into the soapy water so the clothes would smell as fresh as a daisy. She hung the clothes out to dry and then made a short walk to the medical centre to see the pack doctor. Dr. Sienna Chamberlain was no stranger to Amelie's body. She had lost count of the number of times Amelie had come in with bruises, black eyes, and fractures. Today's multiple injuries seemed a little worse and this worried the doctor. As usual, Sienna would question Amelie, Amelie would make up some clumsy incident and after patching her up, Amelie would be back on her way. Sienna had thought about mentioning her injuries to Dr. Conway but Sienna didn't want to cause more problems for Amelie. Amelie walked back to the pack house feeling better already, the painkillers hadn't kicked in, but the bandages helped greatly. She entered the garden area outside the pack house where she had left the clothes to dry and saw the clothes still hanging there. She let out the breath she was holding and sighed in relief. As she got closer though she realised one of the items was missing; the Alpha's shirt! She gathered up the remaining dry clothes and ran into the laundry room where she saw the Lily the kind old lady who managed the area. "Lily, I need your help, there was a shirt hanging outside with these other items. Have you seen it?" Amelie asked politely, trying to hide her desperation. "Oh yes my dear, it had fallen on the grass and got some grass stains on it. I put it to wash again." "You didn't put it in the washing machine did you?" Amelie asked hesitantly.
