In the distance, I heard a familiar voice, which was supposed to be thousands of miles away. The nagging voice continued in the background even after I had covered my ears underneath the pillows. It wasn’t until I heard a loud bang that everything fell into perspective for me. With a start, I jumped into a sitting position, my head spinning for a second before I regained my composure. “Kyle! Kyle! Are you awake? I know you’re in there!” I groaned and ignored the voices again, praying they would go away. “Kyle! Open the damn door.” Like being drenched in cold water, I grew alert. It was then I finally grasped the reality of the situation. I staggered up and hurriedly grabbed the nearest clothing within reach: the denim jacket by the black leather couch above my makeshift bed. “Kyle!”
