Chapter 8

1271 Words

On the day Mia was discharged from the hospital, Audrey brought her back to her parents' place. "Mom, Dad, Mia will stay with you for a while," she said to her parents. "I've been swamped with work lately. I don't have the time to look after her right now." Her mother looked at her, then at her granddaughter, who was hiding behind her husband, clutching the hem of his shirt, and sighed. "So you and Silas... really don't have a chance anymore?" Audrey was silent for a moment. "I'll handle this." After leaving her parents' place, she drove to Silas's parents'. Standing downstairs, she looked up at the familiar window on the fifth floor. The light was on. She sat in her car for a long time and smoked half a pack of cigarettes before she finally pushed the door open and headed upstairs.
