# Chapter 6 – Sorrow

722 Words
Rudra: That weekend when we returned home, we both did tell our parents about our relationship; About how much we were in love with each other. Both our families were very conservative, though we were not from different castes, only the lingual was different, but that still stood out the barrier between us. My parents didn’t talk to me for almost a month. From where we belonged, there it never mattered how rich or poor you are, what only mattered was how respected you are. The same was with her family as well. In her home, all of it was the same. Her father and all the other family members rejected it in the very first instance itself and they told her, "Don’t you dare meet him again." Her father arranged a driver for her who would now drop by and pick her up from home and office. So, our little office romances after she logged out also got finished. She tried to convince a lot but they never listened to her and all she got was a big No. They even started to find her a guy who was accepted by all her family members and get done with her marriage. Why do parents ever realize that in a marriage a boy and a girl get into marriage and they have to spend the future with each other till wherever it goes but it’s not the two families who marry each other. The relatives or the members that oppose or approve a relationship will not even be seen for years after the marriage is made. So, their opinion and views are absolutely pointless. Me: This is a truth you are telling which no one understands. Rudra: She gave her best but they didn’t agree. My family was almost the same as Maya’s family. The same thing, You’ve disrespected us. We will not be able to walk with pride after this. Our family name will be vanished. All these years of respect that we earned will all be gone. Just get out of my sight, I don’t want to talk about this anymore. Both our families didn’t understand one simple thing: that when their daughter and son are happy together, then their pride will only increase rather than decrease. A happily married couple lead a very positive life rather than intentionally forced married couples. I didn’t know how to react in this situation, What should I choose? On one side was my love, in which I was seeing my future, and on the other side was my family. On one hand, My memories of the family raising me. How they spent my birthdays. How they did not sleep the whole night if I was sick. How many sacrifices they made for me On the other hand, I wanted to live with my girl, but with my family as well. I wanted her to get welcomed into my house as happily as my family would have welcomed a girl of their choice. I probably haven’t eaten for three months, Just used to eat very little in order to just survive. Going to work, after that, going to the bar and sitting there endlessly. The people who come to the bar are very interesting though. They are hilarious and serious, both at the same time. I didn’t talk with anybody, There was no topic left to talk about at home. What would I have talked about with them? When all the decisions were already taken, when you had to do what other people think was best for your son to do. If you revolt and fight back, you are a bad son. If you listen to them, then you are disturbing your own future. This is just one of many hardships that boys face in their lifetime, but the irony is that, it is never recognized or realized. No hope that it may be understood in our society in future as well. Me: Every boy in this world will relate to this. It’s never easy. Rudra: This torture even my girl had to face in her home, She went absolutely numb. Anyway, I would meet her and talk to her. She wouldn’t reply as if she was in her own world. I had never seen this side of her before. She felt devastated.
