Chapter 13

The knight's training grounds were located on the far west of the castle. Only the best of the best were even allowed to become knights in the kingdom, so it was only natural that the ones who were better than the best were able to become royal knights. As soon as Harry saw them, she knew they were no ordinary people. The clanking swords were so loud that they made Harry's ears ring. "More!" roared a loud voice. "If that's all you got, then you'll never be able to protect their Royal Highnesses." The man shouting was none other than Cambrel. One of the knights bowed down to him. "I'm very sorry, Commander!" he cried. Harry was startled by Cambrel's cruelness. He pushed his blonde hair back and sighed, "Honestly, how did you even make it into this palace? With skills like yours, you'll never-" He looked over and noticed Harry watching him from afar. He moved away from the knight and walked over to her. He smiled and said cheerfully, "You've arrived, Princess Harry." "Sir Cambrel," she replied awkwardly. Cambrel put away his sword and said, "I was expecting you." "Yeah," Harry replied. "But you seem so busy at the moment." Cambrel laughed, "I'm never too busy for the princess." Harry tried to laugh too, but it came out sounding very forced. "I did not know that you were the commander of the knights. That's very impressive!" Cambrel's smile faded and he responded coldly, "I'm not the commander, I'm just the temporary one, the crown prince is the true commander." "I see," Harry replied quietly. She was a little scared of Cambrel's switch. "Commander!" shouted a few of the knights. They all ran up to him and Harry. "Commander, aren't you going to spar with Jonah anymore?" asked a knight younger than him. Another knight older than the both of them peeked over at Harry. "Are you leaving already?" he asked looking back at Cambrel. "Yes," he replied. He looked over at Harry. "Oh, that reminds me!" he gasped. "Marcus, Ivan, introduce yourselves to the princess." The two men turned their attention to Harry. "Yes, yes, I know of the princess," spoke the younger one. He bowed as he introduced himself. "As you've heard, my name is Marcus, the mean one here is Ivan." Ivan glared at Marcus. He also bowed and introduced himself in a very deep voice. "I'm Ivan." The two men looked completely different from one another. Marcus was short with red flaming hair and bright green eyes. His skin was very pale and his face was perfectly proportioned without a single scar on it. While Ivan with his dark hair, and dark eyes, had many scars on his tanned face. The most noticeable one was the x-marked scar on his chin. Between the two, Ivan was more stoic compared to the loud Marcus. Harry quickly bowed too. This act surprised the knights, especially since it was against everything that she had learned in her etiquette classes. It was an act that the commoners would do to express their gratitude and respect towards the knights, whenever they would pass through the village. "As you know, my name is Harry, please feel free to call me by that name-" "Nope!" Cambrel shouted. He hurriedly pulled Harry away straight towards the king's office. When they arrived, they didn't knock right away, they just silently stood staring at the door. Cambrel glanced over at Harry; it was obvious that she was anxious. He wanted to calm her nerves somehow. "Don't be nervous!" he cheered. "You're going in there to receive the best gift of your life, right?" Harry nodded and shook her fists. "Right!" Cambrel nodded back. "Then, let's go!" he exclaimed. Harry tightly grabbed onto the door knob and quickly pushed it open. "Pa-pardon my intrusion!" she said loudly as she pushed the door further. When the door was completely opened, Harry could see the king at his desk, she could immediately tell he had been waiting for her, but he was not the one who had her attention. Standing in the middle of the room was a boy with jet-black hair. He appeared to be her age, or just slightly older. He was tall and very slim. He was dressed in a formal suit with black dress shoes, black trousers, and a bright purple jacket. He was clearly of noble lineage. "Harry," called the king. He immediately took notice of Harry's interest in the boy. "This boy will be your new personal guard, his name is Varian Alchester." The boy turned around, instantly revealing eyes so blue that they almost appeared purple. Harry had many questions for the king as well as the boy, but all she could think about at that moment was how beautiful his eyes were.
