James collapsed before I could get him to Dr. Chen, blood pooling beneath him from wounds I hadn't noticed in the chaos. Deep gashes across his back, claw marks that went to the bone. Someone had tortured him before sending him here with that message.
"Get Dr. Chen!" I lowered him carefully to the floor. "James, stay with me. Who did this to you?"
"Melissa." His voice was barely audible. "She found out I was coming to warn you. Had rogues waiting. They wanted to know everything about Shadow Creek's defenses. I didn't tell them anything, Kai. I swear."
"I know you didn't." Rage was building in my chest, hot and consuming. Melissa had done this. My chosen Luna had tortured my Beta because he'd tried to help protect my children. "Just hold on. Dr. Chen's coming."
