Chapter two

563 Words
The following morning at breakfast, Mr. Mario decided to confide in his long-time friend, Mr. Smith. "Smith, we've been friends for nearly three decades and business partners for twenty-one years," he began a hint of urgency in his voice. "I don't have much time left, and I want to ensure that my daughter and the family business are in good hands." Smith reassured him, "Don't worry, my friend. You'll be around for a long time, and I'll make sure your daughter is well taken care of. I'll teach her everything she needs to know about the family business." Mr. Mario, however, was resolute. "No, Smith, I've watched Sofia grow into the remarkable woman she is today, and she deserves the very best. That's why I want her to marry your son and strengthen the bond between our families." Smith's eldest son, the charismatic and highly successful Henry Smith, had recently gained fame as the most sought-after bachelor under 30, his striking features and charm capturing the hearts of many. As Mr. Smith prepared to depart for the States that evening, he promised to discuss the marriage proposal with his son. On his way out, he was pleasantly surprised to encounter Sofia, who exuded grace and elegance. "Good day, Father and Uncle Smith," she greeted them. "How are you both doing?" "I'm doing well," replied Mr. Smith. "Safe travels back home, and please send my regards to everyone." Sofia's presence left a lasting impression on Mr. Smith. He marveled at how she had grown and her recent graduation from the University of Valencia with a major in business management. He couldn't help but agree that she was a perfect match for his son, Henry. With smiles of enthusiasm, they bid each other farewell as the sun dipped below the horizon. Meanwhile, as Mr. James Smith arrived at the airport, he was welcomed by his loyal chauffeur. Their journey led to the Smith family mansion, a timeless masterpiece that had stood for over a century, symbolizing tradition, opulence, and the family's enduring legacy. As the idea of uniting Sofia and Henry took root, Mr. Smith knew he had to approach his son with care. Seeking the wisdom of his mother, Lady Eleanor, known for her gentle touch, he invited her to a private dinner at their grand estate. Over an elegant dinner, Mr. Smith revealed his proposal to Lady Eleanor, who agreed to speak with her grandson. She visited Henry at his secluded estate, sharing tales of love and family bonds before presenting her request. Nana, this isn't the 19th century, where parents choose a spouse," Henry replied, initially resistant. "I'll marry when I want to. I don't need my parents to decide for me. I'm not a child anymore. I make my own money and can live life on my terms." Leaving Nana behind, he drove off, adamant about making his own choices. Nana called Smith, expressing her concerns. "I told you it wouldn't be easy," Nana said over the phone. "But where has his stubbornness led him? Do you like how people call him a monster? He's our son, and I wouldn't do anything to harm him. I love him dearly, but he keeps pushing everyone away. What's a father going to do to prove his love other than trying to guide him toward a better path?" Smith replied with a heavy heart.
