Chapter 4 I'll Kill You

784 Words
Aiden's voice was ice cold. "Anya, I honestly thought you were a kind person. But I never imagined you'd go this far just to stop Harper from entering the family registry. You actually hired someone to cut through the ceiling beam?" Rage flickered in his eyes as he stared at her. Anya's chest tightened instantly. Anger and bitterness churned violently inside her. "Aiden, are you insane?" she snapped. "What gives you the right to accuse me like that?" Anya snatched the phone from his hand and replayed the surveillance footage frame by frame. The video clearly showed the cause of the accident. A masked construction worker had secretly sawed through the beam. But she had never seen that man in her life. Just as she was about to speak, Aiden swiped to the next video. A rough male voice immediately came through the speaker. "It was Mrs. Stone who ordered me to do it. She told me to destroy the recognition ceremony. And if Harper or Everly happened to get hurt too, she promised me an extra ten million dollars." Anya froze in disbelief. Before she could even react, Aiden grabbed her wrist roughly. "Everly, since Anya ruined Harper's ceremony, she owes you an apology." Everly's eyes glistened with fake tears as she spoke softly, "Aiden, words alone don't really feel sincere. Shouldn't she do something more meaningful?" Aiden frowned slightly, looking like he wanted to say something. But at that exact moment, Harper's video call ringtone went off on his phone. "Do whatever you want." Without even sparing Anya another glance, he hurried out of the hospital room to answer the call. Everly watched him leave with a smug smile on her face. Then her gaze slowly dropped to Anya's hands. A vicious look flashed through her eyes. "Aiden once told me the only thing prettier about you was your nails. In that case... Let's destroy them." Anya's body stiffened. "Everly, don't you dare!" But before she could move, several bodyguards walked into the room. One of them covered her mouth while the others pinned her arms onto the table. Another man picked up a pair of pliers. Then he started ripping her nails off one by one. Anya's fingernails were ripped from her fingers, each one tearing away with flesh and blood. The pain was so unbearable that Anya's entire body shook violently. She nearly blacked out several times. But the bodyguards never stopped. Not until every single nail had been ripped off. Only then did they finally leave. Everly looked down at the unconscious woman lying there in agony and laughed arrogantly. "Anya, don't think giving birth to one child means you can replace me in Aiden's heart. Even if you had ten kids, you'd still never compare to me. If you know what's good for you, disappear already." With that, she grabbed her designer purse and strutted elegantly out of the hospital room. The commotion shocked the surrounding patients. People quickly called for doctors. When the doctor saw Anya's mangled fingers, he gasped repeatedly in horror. "Ms. Shaw, your injuries are extremely serious. Not only were the nails ripped out, but the nail beds were completely destroyed, and there's nerve damage too. I'm afraid your fingers may never fully recover." Tears instantly rushed into Anya's eyes. But she forced them back down. "Just bandage them," she said weakly. "I want to leave the hospital as soon as possible." By the fifth day, her hands could barely move again. Anya immediately took a cab back to the villa. She was leaving soon. Before she left forever, she wanted to pack away everything that belonged to her and Isla. The moment she walked inside, she saw Everly and Harper sitting together on the couch, their heads pressed close as they giggled excitedly. Anya glanced over casually. Then her blood froze. Harper was scribbling all over Isla's photo. The little girl's big eyes had been colored bright red. A giant red X was drawn across her mouth. Her chest area had been cut open with scissors, and beside it was a crudely drawn bloody heart. Across the picture were written the words, "Little b***h. You deserved to die." Rage exploded through Anya instantly. She snatched the photo away and smashed a glass directly against Everly's head. "Control your daughter! If either of you touches Isla's things again, I swear I'll kill you!" The fury burning in her chest was so intense she wanted to tear Everly apart with her bare hands. But Everly wasn't angry at all. She only smiled wider. "Oh? You're already this upset? Then if you saw what your daughter looked like during surgery... You'd probably completely lose your mind."
