I sat there, as the smell of smoke had gotten closer, and I could now hear the flames below us raging.
I was still in shock, Donte had really done this? Life long family friend Donte? My first kiss Donte? Trying to kill us, burn us alive.
How long had I been sitting here instead of trying to think of a way to get us out? What the hell is wrong with you Blair. Mentally cursing myself, I start to look around my parents bedroom for the last time. Looking for something, anything that could possibly help get us out of these damn ropes and out of this house.
Nothing.
What the hell!
This was so much easier in video games.
I close my eyes, searching my mind. for any possibility that my wolf can at least be sensed. I know its still over 24 hours away but I couldn't NOT try!
Mentally, I'm screaming, my lungs beginning to burn with the amount of smoke that was now filling the room.
*Uhhhh. Wolfy? Hello?* I try. *This is crazy... We will die, you know. Moon Goddess, if you can hear me! Please! Help us.... please...*
After what had felt like hours, but was really mere minutes, I am still begging, pleading with the Moon Goddess, crying.
I close my eyes, giving in to the blackness as the flames made their appearance under the door frame.
*Blair?* A voice in my head spoke. But I no longer have the energy to reply.
"This is f*****g crazy." I say out loud. Slowly my will to fight to get free was diminishing. I felt like I was actually losing my mind.
*Blair, love, you've got to listen to me.* The voice coming more urgent now. *Blair, dammit, let me in!*
"Little tied up at the moment..." I darkly chuckled. Why not? What the hell was going on anyway?
*You vile child! You've got to let me take control.*
"Who are you? What the hell do you even mean, lady?" Have I definitely lost it from the amount of smoke?
*For Goddess sake, Blair. Let me come forth. I need to start the transformation. I'd surely rather not die. Step aside in this blistering head of yours.*
"Quite new to this. How."
The voice scoffs at me. Seriously? Even my subconscious in death has an attitude...
*Call out my name.*
For that moment, she sounded sweet. But then the real confusion and frustration set in. What the hell? I'm a werewolf! Not some damn wizard. "You've actually got to be..." I started. But then, I saw it. Quite literally. Through the reflection on the window, flames had spelled out a name.
"Talia." I whispered.
Immediately, my body felt like it was burning from the inside.
*I have to push this, Blair, I'm so sorry. If I don't, we all die dammit. Do NOT BLOCK THIS PAIN! That will hold me out! pull me out, Blair! Pull NOW!!*
Hearing this, I push my mental walls down as hard as I can, with every bit of strength I could produce. The pain was so unreal! The screams sounded bloody. My bones, breaking, rearranging, my screaming so loud you couldn't even hear the cracking. My skin shredding, revealing fur, my screams all but dying down as darkness finally closes in.
*Almost done, babe. Hang on, just a little bit longer. I'm gonna get you guys out of here.*
Oh my goddess, this is so unbelievable. This pain is something I'd never wish on anyone.
The final stretch, I could feel it. For the last time, I jammed my eyes shut and gritted my teeth, mentally pushing so hard I was sure my head actually exploded from the pressure.
And that was it.
A deep growl that sounded venomous with anger, followed by a howl that was sure to fill the pack grounds sounded.
My wolf was free.
The Moon Goddess blessed me with my wolf in order to save my mom and I. And her name is so beautiful.
*Talia.* I say with a smile, laying in the back of my own head, watching through her eyes.
*Hello, love. Get some rest, I will not shift back till then. I've got you're back.*
*Mmmm* was all I could manage as I let my body shut down, thanking the Moon Goddess herself for this blessing.
**Talia's POV**
It's a wonder we are even still alive. Had we not pushed so hard, they would have been gone for sure.
So much smoke, and flames so hot and close, I could smell my fur burning a little.
Laying on the bed was Miranda, Blair's mother, unconscious. I could smell her wolf Athea and still hear her heart beat, although faint.
Her rope, I can smell the wolfsbane... Shit... As gently and quickly as I could, I ripped at the rope with my claws. And after two or three tries and a burn or two from the laced ropes, they were finally off.
Knowing Athea is so weak, I'm just hoping she can still respond some how. Since Blair and Miranda are still family, and Blair is unmated, she can still link her parents. *Athea love, I'm gonna get you on my back, get her to hold on tight. Once she's secure, I'm running, and I'm gonna run fast.* I instructed.
I pulled her by the shirt to the edge of the bed, to where a small nudge of the bed frame would send her over, so I crouched next to the bed, belly flat on the floor. I gently smacked my hind leg into the frame and down she slid. As she slid into place, thank the goddess, she grabbed a fist full of my fur.
I turn to the window and send us through it as hard as I could, taken back a little as I realize we're on the second floor. My paws hitting the ground with a heavy thud, leaving the lump of woman on my back to whimper slightly.
Before the other wolves get a chance to smell us, I run.
*Get her breathing deep to clear her lungs, Athea, I may need your help.* I coaxed, and shortly after, feeling Miranda's chest expand greatly, doing exactly as I asked.
I run and run, until the sun sits in the middle of the sky. Only in the direction I feel pulling me. Finally, I stop at a small pond. My need for water too great and lungs and legs burning from over use. My first shift and I have run for hours while carrying a human? Hell of a work out for a freshly awaken wolf.
I sat down to gently slide Miranda's body to the ground beside the water. The woman lost a mate and then breathed all that fire WHILE stuck in wolfsbane ropes? Luckier to be alive than Blair and I, really. I'll have to be sure to let her know how strong she is to me, and the love I can feel for her through Blair.
After I had lapped up enough water to quench my thirst, I used my muzzle to splash some in Miranda's direction. Moments pass, and a few splashes more, Miranda winces, the coolness of the water touching her still burning skin. In an instant, she was sprung into a seated position. Her eyes wide with fear, sight trained on me, her daughter's new wolf form.
I lay down, my head on my paws, and link her. *Hello Miranda, I'm Talia.*
Her face quickly filled with confusion, then worry, then her eyes were clouded. This time, it must have been Athea filling her in on today's events as tears flooded her eyes.
