767 Words
As Sydney walked into the house, she was met with a tense atmosphere. Her brother, Samuel, was pacing back and forth in the living room, his phone pressed to his ear. Xander was sitting on the couch, flipping through a phone book, his eyes scanning the pages with an intensity that made Sydney feel uneasy. Both Samuel and Xander looked up as Sydney entered the room, and for a moment, they just stared at her. Then, simultaneously, they let out a sigh of relief. But Samuel's relief was short-lived. He quickly ended his call and strode over to Sydney, his face twisted in a mixture of anger and worry. "Where have you been?" he yelled, his voice loud and menacing. "I've been worried sick about you! How many times do I have to tell you not to switch off your phone?" Sydney closed her eyes tightly, swaying slightly to the rhythm of Samuel's angry words. She felt a lump form in her throat as she tried to process the intensity of his emotions. But as Samuel's words washed over her, she felt a wave of tears well up inside her. She opened her eyes, and the tears spilled down her cheeks as she looked up at Samuel. Samuel's face faltered, and he took a step back, his eyes widening in shock. "Sydney, I...I'm sorry," he stammered, trying to justify his anger. "I was just so worried about you." But Sydney didn't hear him. She was too caught up in her own emotions, and she let out a sob, the sound tearing through the room. Samuel's face crumpled, and he reached out to hug her. Sydney hesitated for a moment before wrapping her arms around him, holding him tightly as she cried. But as Samuel held her, Sydney felt a wave of emotions wash over her. She was angry, hurt, and scared, all at the same time. And as she pulled away from Samuel, she saw the concern etched on his face, and she felt a pang of guilt. Before Samuel could say anything, Sydney turned and ran out of the room, her tears streaming down her face. She sprinted down the hallway, her heart pounding in her chest, and flung herself into her room, slamming the door shut behind her. She collapsed onto the floor, curling herself into a ball as she sobbed uncontrollably. The sound of her tears echoed through the room, a heartbreaking reminder of the emotions that had been building up inside her. As she cried, Sydney felt like she was releasing all the pent-up emotions that had been bottled up inside her. She felt like she was finally letting go of all the stress and anxiety that had been weighing her down. But as the tears slowly began to subside, Sydney felt a sense of emptiness wash over her. She realized that she had been running from her emotions for so long, and now that she had finally faced them, she felt lost and alone. As she sat on the floor, surrounded by the silence of her room, Sydney felt like she was staring into the abyss, unsure of what lay ahead. ***** As Sydney's tears faded into the distance, Samuel's face contorted in a mixture of concern and self-reproach. He stood frozen in the living room, his eyes fixed on the hallway that led to Sydney's room. Xander, who had been watching the scene unfold, slowly rose from the couch, his eyes never leaving Samuel's face. Samuel, still lost in thought, began to walk towards Sydney's room, his footsteps heavy with regret. But Xander's voice stopped him. "Samuel, wait." Samuel turned, his eyes questioning. Xander's expression was calm, but his eyes held a hint of authority. "You were too harsh on her, Sam. I think it's best that I speak to her instead." Samuel's face twisted in a mixture of pain and frustration. He knew that Xander was right, but it hurt to admit it. He had always been the one to comfort Sydney, to protect her but now he had to protect her from himself. Xander's eyes seemed to bore into Samuel's soul, as if he could see the turmoil that was brewing inside. "Trust me, Sam. I'll take care of it." Samuel's shoulders slumped in defeat, and he nodded slowly. "Okay." Xander's face softened, and he placed a hand on Samuel's shoulder. "I'll make sure she's okay." Samuel watched as Xander disappeared into the hallway, and memories of his childhood resurfaced, he knew that was the main reason Syd was shattered....but it hurt him to know that he triggered it.
