Lana moved slowly, trying not to wake Stefano, so she could escape before he realized it.
That was such a close call last night. She didn’t need another one now that the sun would be up anytime soon.
She held her breath as she slid out from under the covers and tiptoed along the cold marble floor. Her lingerie was still on the chair where he’d flung it, but she didn’t want to dare waste time dressing. She just grabbed the piece of clothing when she heard his voice.
“Going somewhere?”
Lana jumped in fright.
He was awake. s**t.
She turned slowly, praying that it was still too dark to see her face. But Stefano sat up in bed, still naked. His eyes locked onto hers and he looked at her strangely.
“Wait…” He tilted his head, eyes narrowing. “Let me see your face.”
Lana’s blood turned to ice.
“The light’s too bright,” she said fearfully. “I was just… going to the bathroom.” She wondered what he would do if he found out he had just f****d the maid. Would he kill her? She wouldn’t put that past him. His family had no problem killing innocent people, after all.
But before she could even open her mouth to respond, there was a sudden knock at the door.
Lana didn’t think her heart could pound any faster. Who was that?! She was so scared. Was this how she would be exposed?
Meanwhile, Stefano’s words kept ringing in her ears.
“Let me see your face.”
This whole situation felt like a gun to her head.
Stefano glanced in annoyance toward the door. “What the f**k…”
He grabbed a pair of sweatpants from the floor and stormed toward the door while telling her, “Stay put.”
But Lana didn’t waste a single second. Stay put her ass. This was so embarrassing.
Her legs were trembling, but with the adrenaline rushing through her veins, ran behind a curtain to hide herself.
She was naked and trembling as she tried to cover herself with the little piece of lingerie she had. Tears came to her eyes. Why did this have to happen to her?
She watched from a slit between the curtains as Stefano opened the door.
And what she saw shocked her.
There was Bianca Rossi standing in the doorway with a wide smile on her face.
What. The. Hell.
Lana couldn’t believe her eyes. Why was Bianca here? SHE was supposed to be Bianca. That was the plan. So what was the real Bianca doing here?
Lana was beginning to feel like this was a setup. But she couldn’t understand this. What could Bianca possibly gain from doing this? Lana was very close to having a panic attack.
No, no, no. This wasn’t good.
Lana watched as Bianca smiled sweetly at Stefano. “Good morning, darling.”
Stefano blinked. His expression quickly changed from irritation to confusion. Deep confusion.
“What the hell…” he muttered, eyes flicking back toward the room, then back to Bianca. “Wait. What the f**k is going on? Bianca?!” He glanced towards where Lana was hiding. “But I thought….”
Bianca’s smile didn’t even fall. “Yes, darling, it’s me. Why do you sound surprised? Were you expecting someone else?”
“I… no, I…” He rubbed the back of his head in confusion. “I just thought….” Then his expression went cold. “What are you doing here?”
“I brought you breakfast, my love,” she said, breezing in with a tray like she owned the place. “I know you were drunk last night, and I have the perfect cure for your hangover.”
Lana, still hiding behind the curtain, felt her chest tighten. She was acutely aware of how this wasn’t a good hiding place. Bianca was bound to spot her any second.
Stefano was staring at Bianca like he’d seen a ghost. It meant he actually thought she was the one in bed with him.
Lana watched as Bianca placed the tray down on the bedside table and swept her gaze round the room like a predator. Of course she knew Lana was here. She had been the one to set all of this up.
Bianca kept looking, then her eyes landed right on the curtain.
Right on her.
Lana’s blood ran cold.
Bianca’s smile widened. “What’s this?” she said with fake surprise, tilting her head.
Before Lana could move, before she could think, Bianca was already striding toward her.
Lana panicked and turned her face away just as Bianca yanked away the curtain. She covered her face in shame with both hands. Her heart pounded so hard that it felt painful.
She couldn’t believe this was happening to her.
She had no idea if Bianca’s intention was to expose her, but she prayed to heaven that Stefano wouldn’t see her face. She couldn’t afford to expose her identity before her mission here was accomplished.
Bianca gasped dramatically as soon as she saw Lana standing there in her lingerie. “Oh my God.” Her voice trembled just enough to sound believable. But obviously, she was faking it. “Stefano, how could you?!”
He looked stunned, frozen halfway between the bed and the door. His expression was blank for a second… then twisted into annoyance.
“Wait, what the f**k?!” he barked.
Bianca turned to him with fake betrayal in her eyes. “Are you serious right now? You brought someone else into your bed? Why would you do this?! We’re engaged, for f**k’s sake!”
“I didn’t…” Stefano ran a hand over his face, his jaw clenched. “I thought it was…Fuck!”
“Oh, please,” Bianca spat, then rounded back on Lana. “Who even are you?”
Lana couldn’t speak. She only prayed that it was still too dark for Stefano to see her face. She could only shake her head in confusion while keeping her palms on her face to hide.
“You snuck into his bed, whored yourself out, and now you’re pretending to be confused?” Bianca snapped.
Lana wanted to cry. Bianca had set her up. But for what? She couldn’t understand it.
Bianca took a deep sigh and turned toward Stefano again and slowly placed her palm on his bare chest. “You know what? It’s okay, darling,” she whispered. “You don’t have to explain anything. I’m not mad.”
Lana blinked at Bianca’s sudden change of behavior. This was just crazy.
Stefano stared at her, confused and still trying to piece things together.
Bianca cupped his cheek sweetly. “You were probably half-asleep or still drunk. It’s not your fault.” Her voice turned weirdly soft. “But I wouldn’t go around bragging about it. After all… if your father finds out you had another woman in your bed while you’re engaged to me…” She trailed off.
Stefano’s jaw locked. “Bianca. What the f**k…”
“I’m not threatening you,” she said quickly. “I’m only saying. If your father were to somehow find out that you f****d someone else, I don’t think he would be very forgiving. And right under his roof too.” She tilted her head. “You don’t want to give him a reason to take away your birthright from you, do you?”
That struck a nerve. Stefano flinched. “Don’t bring him into this.”
“Oh, but I will,” Bianca said sweetly. “Unless…” She turned toward Lana and then back to Stefano. “…unless you do exactly as I say.”
He stiffened. “What the f**k do you want.”
Lana could only watch in shock at what was happening. Stefano was obviously about to be blackmailed.
Bianca smiled sweetly again. “So here’s what we’ll do. We’ll forget this little… accident. No one needs to know.” She flung her arms around his neck and stared into his eyes. “But you’re going to marry me in one month. No delays. No excuses. Or I’ll make sure your father hears about all the moans I heard echoing from your room last night.”
Stefano’s fists clenched, and his eyes glinted dangerously. He looked like he had just been punched in the gut.
Bianca leaned up and kissed his lips mockingly. “You should be thanking me for being so understanding.”
Lana stood frozen, her mouth dry and her lungs hurting from holding her breath.
This was worse than she imagined. Bianca hadn’t just set her up. She was using her to trap Stefano.
And she had succeeded.
Lana thought this couldn’t get any worse. But she was so wrong.
