I couldn’t believe five years had passed already. I filled my lungs with fresh air after I waved goodbye to Catherine. I made sure she was settled in her seat inside her classroom before telling her that I had to go back home. I laughed softly when she smiled at me, giving me a thumbs-up. I smiled back at her, reassuring her that everything would be alright. Kids grow up so fast. I removed my coat and went straight to my small office, where I usually paint. It had been five years, and it was the only way I knew how to provide for my little daughter. Life for me and Catherine had been good since my artwork was always sold out in every art exhibit I joined. I was happy with our simple, peaceful life. It was what I had always dreamed of. Away from any drama. Away from the complicated life
