Chapter Five

I caught a cold after getting into the pool to save her. I wonder what she was thinking when she fell like that and she kept saying that her heels broke. I wondered if her ankle was fine and didn’t get bad because that fall was risky. As I got into could feel a chill creeping through me. The temperature had dropped since the evening, and i realized that the unexpected swim earlier by the pool had taken a toll on my health. My driver, looked at me through the rearview mirror. "Sir, do you want me to stop at the pharmacy on the way home?" he asked, his voice laced with worry. I just wanted to get inside and rest, waved it off. "No, I'm fine. Just take me home. I'll be alright." With a nod, he continued the drive to the mansion. Benjamin’s resolve to shrug off his condition didn't last long. By the time he made it inside and stepped out of the wet clothes after a warm shower, he couldn't deny the shivers racking my body. Wrapped in a robe, he climbed into the empty bed. Moments later, Amelia returned home, and approaching the bedroom the door flung open and she dropped her bag in the corner and had a warm shower and change of clothes before heading towards the bed she found him lying under the covers, pale and trembling. "Benjamin, are you okay?" she asked, her voice filled with genuine worry. I nodded and turn to face the other side. She was walked over to the other side of the bed and placed her hand on my forehead Amelia frowned. "You’re not okay, you have got a fever and you need medicine” “ I don’t need it “ I managed to say but the look on her face showed that she wasn’t buying it at all. “Why didn't you tell the Mrs Omar? She could have prepared something for you." “ I said I’m fine, how is your ankle. Did it get bad” he asked trying to avoid the question but he realized that it wasn’t working My pride had initially stopped me from seeking help, but I started to believe that my current state made me more vulnerable. "I didn't want to trouble her" Amelia left the room briefly and I slowly got out of bed and took my car keys about to leave and Amelia returned with a tray of hot soup, a thermometer, and some medication almost immediately "Here, you need to eat this soup, take your medicine, and rest," she said firmly. Benjamin tried to protest, "I'm not sure if I—" Amelia interrupted, gently but insistently, "Please, Benjamin, you need to take care of yourself. You got into the pool to save me . It wouldn’t be fair to leave you like this” I sighed, realizing she was right. I accepted the tray and slowly began to eat the warm soup. As I took the first spoonful of the steaming soup, he couldn't help but feel a sense of comfort wash over him. The warmth of the broth seemed to seep into my chest, soothing the ache that had settled there. The chicken broth was rich and flavorful, with tender chunks of chicken, carrots, and celery. It was as if the soup had been made with an extra dose of care and love. The aroma filled the room, adding to the sense of coziness. Amelia sat by the bedside, her presence here was reassuring as she watched me eat. Her eyes were filled with concern, and she offered a gentle smile as i savored each spoonful. She didn't say much, but her actions spoke volumes. I could see the genuine care and affection she had for me in the way she had rushed to my side, and now, in the way she silently supported me. I began to wonder if she did this genuinely but her eyes spoke a lot. After finishing the last spoonful of soup, I knew i couldn't put it off any longer. With a sigh, i reached for the small glass of cold medicine that Amelia had placed on the tray. The liquid inside looked uninviting, but i knew it was necessary to help me recover. Amelia watched as Benjamin hesitated for a moment before taking the medicine. He wondered if she could see the discomfort on his face and she reached out to gently place a hand on his shoulder. "It'll help you feel better, Benjamin," she assured him with a smile. With her encouragement, i raised the glass and took the medicine, wincing at the bitter taste. Setting the empty glass aside, i sank back into the pillows, exhaustion weighing heavily on me. Amelia took the tray away and returned with a soft, warm blanket, which she carefully draped over me. "You need to rest now," she said softly, tucking the blanket around me. "I'll be here if you need anything. Just get some sleep, and you'll feel better in no time." I closed my eyes, feeling the effects of the medicine beginning to take hold.
