He put his head down. “O.K. I’m going to shoot at the target, and save the bottles for you. Get your cheek down on the stock… you’ll be holding it in place, but the muzzle’s still gonna rise, and you want to be up against the stock so it doesn’t have room to jump up and hit you.” He looked down the barrel. “You see the little ring down back here on the c*****g piece—the little thing that sticks out in back, that’s the rear sight.” He floated the black circle of the target just above the front sight post’s gold bead. “Put the front just under the target. If you’re in the right position you’ll see the ring as a blur around it. Don’t worry too much about centering it—your eye’ll do it.” He flipped the safety off and put his finger alongside the trigger guard, checking the placing and alignmen
