Chapter 5

"No, it's not like that!" My mom waved her hands frantically as soon as she sensed the officer's tone. "Sir, we didn't make a false report!" Hearing this, the officers turned their scrutinizing eyes toward me, suspicion written across their faces. I couldn't believe my parents would stoop so low as to throw dirt on me just to find me. Anger surged within me. I glanced at them and smiled coldly before addressing the officers again. "That's right. I was planning to engage in illegal activities at this hotel. They didn't make a false report. Go ahead and arrest me." With that, I raised my arms and held out my wrists, showing no emotion. The officers exchanged glances, shocked. One of the younger officers muttered under his breath, his gaze laced with disdain. "How could you call the police to report your own daughter is involved in prostitution?" My parents looked irritated but persisted in their attempts to paint themselves as the victims. "Gentlemen, you don't understand. My daughter has never listened to us. She didn't study well in school, and after graduating from college, she just wanted to come home and leech off us instead of looking for a job. She won't even go on the blind dates we arranged for her and keeps threatening to run away. We're at our wits' end. That's why... That's why..." My mom's voice quivered with emotion as tears streamed down her cheeks. My dad sighed dramatically, looking heartbroken. If I weren't involved, I might have even believed their sob story about the "heartbroken parents". Of course, the police seemed taken in by their performance. This was ridiculous. I became a reckless and selfish daughter in an instant.
