I was locked up again.
This time, not only was the door locked, but even the windows were sealed shut.
Fortunately, they hadn't taken my laptop.
I thought about tomorrow's online interview.
Even though I couldn't sleep at all, I forced myself to rest so I could be ready to break free from this terrible family.
As soon as dawn broke, I woke up early.
I checked my phone, opened the front camera, and confirmed that the swelling from the two slaps yesterday had gone down, finally feeling relieved.
Since I couldn't fall back asleep, I got out of bed and reviewed the materials I had looked over at the hotel yesterday.
Time ticked by.
At 7 a.m., there was a knock on my bedroom door, and my mom asked, "Do you realize your mistake?"
I stayed silent, and after a while, I heard her footsteps walking away.
Half an hour later, someone knocked on the door again.
This time it was Dad. "Don't think we'll go easy this time. As long as you don't admit your mistake, you can forget about stepping out of this room!"
'So what? I don't f*****g care!' I thought.
The interview was scheduled for 10 a.m., and thankfully, my parents were still at work. Otherwise, I couldn't guarantee today's interview wouldn't be interrupted.
Fifteen minutes ahead of my interview, I opened my computer and clicked the link to enter one of the online interview rooms.
Soon, the waiting area on the screen lit up with one profile picture after another. According to incomplete statistics, there were at least a hundred people.
It felt like an army of graduates crossing a narrow bridge.
It was 10 a.m. now.
The video connection started, and the interviewers appeared one by one on camera.
As the meeting progressed, it was soon my turn.
"Hello everyone, my name is Nina Brooks, and I am applying for the position in the marketing department..."
Just as I spoke confidently, someone pushed open the door to my bedroom without warning.
I thought Mom had already left, but she walked in holding a plate of fruit. "Here, sweetie, have some fruit."
