Chapter 2: Secrets Unveiled

1402 Words
Sitting in the secluded area of the Whispering Grove with her newfound brother Ethan, Myra's mind was aflutter with thoughts and feelings. She was overwhelmed by the information that was revealed about her three brothers, her birth mother, her supernatural history, and her ancestry. Myra had the impression that she had wandered into an episode of Twilight. "Werewolves"? With astonished eyes, Myra inquired. "What? Are you going to tell me my enemy is a vampire next?” She laughed. She found it difficult to accept all of these jargon. It couldn't be a coincidence that a stranger claiming to be one of three brothers walked into the same bar she happened to be in. So how is she expected to believe all this rubbish about her being from a rare werewolf bloodline and some prophecy-related nonsense? Myra felt Ethan's eyes would come out of their sockets from how hard he was rolling them. He spoke like he was terrified of something or someone, saying, "Myra, you have to take this seriously. We don't have any more time." "I apologize, but werewolves?" Myra giggles. “Honestly?” “Alright, may I ask what led you to Brentwood?” With much enthusiasm, Ethan inquired. "This belonged to my parents; when they found me, they discovered it wrapped around my fingers." Ethan watches Myra take off the jewelry she wore around her neck. “I guess I followed the necklace because all of my research on the crest behind it pointed me toward Brentwood." After taking something out of his pocket, Ethan hands it to her. "That's the Crescent moon pack crest, looks familiar?" Myra exclaims, holding Ethan's necklace up to hers. "Em, we come from so much history. The existence of our pack hangs in the balance. We have been haunted for generations." Ethan went on to say. Myra's throat tightened. Her father was the only one to ever call her 'Em'. The pain returned to her as if it had never left. She had only been blind to it for a split second. Seeking to dispel her feelings. "Well, what are we up against then?" "The...." Just as Ethan was about to reply, there was a sudden commotion at the tavern's door. With a loud groan, the door opened, showing a group of stern-looking people staring at Myra. They belonged to the rival Crimson Pack, which had a long-running dispute with the Crescent Moon Pack. A rivalry that had endured for several decades. “I smell roaches! Scared lil' roaches," Ivan laughed, a sly smile plastered on his face. Ivan, the tall, scruffy-looking with brown hair and a hideous scar on his face, is the Crimson Pack’s Beta and Connor’s second-in-command. He was notorious for his abiding hate for the Crescent Moon Pack and never missed an opportunity to threaten or frighten them. “Drama Queen," Connor nods to Ivan while adjusting his stool. “Cool it, will ya? Some of us are trying to drink in peace." Ivan chuckled. “Whatever you say, boss, I have no idea why you let these Crescent moon roaches gallivant around town like they own the place." Connor became suddenly enraged. “I am your Sheriff, and last I checked your Alpha. I can pretty much do anything I damn well please because this is my town!” With everyone's attention on Connor, the entire bar became silent as his voice boomed over the space. Ivan raised his hands up in the air as a sign of surrender, a wicked grin spread wide across his face. He thought to himself that Connor was weak and wasn’t deserving of the Alpha title. He thought he could do a much better job, but he was just gonna lay low and wait his turn. “What are y'all looking at? Nothing to see here, people". Ivan blurted out, trying to ease the tension. Sensing the uneasiness in the air, Ethan grabs Myra by the arm and pulls her out of the bar and towards a Green and white 1968 Camaro Z/28 convertible parked outside the Bar. “Get in Myra. I guess it's time for a family reunion," gesturing towards the car. “Nice car” Myra snickered. “Are we like rich or something?" Ethan stops halfway, and a half smile forms on his lips. "Something Myra.” They get in the car and drive through the dimly lit streets of Brentwood and into the heart of the dense forest. Myra gasped as the car abruptly stopped in front of a colossal, wrought iron gate, its color as dark as night, with the crescent moon crest engraved in gold right in front of the gate. “The crest! Where are we, Ethan?" Myra could feel her heart beating loudly against her chest. Ethan smiled. "Welcome home, sister." Ethan reached his hand out the car window and entered the gate password. A long stretch of trees lined the road as they drove through the gate, revealing a magnificent house nestled among towering trees. The peaceful, crystal-clear waters of a lake surrounded this secret treasure. The Reagan Cottage had served as home to a long line of Crescent Moon Alphas, its true grandeur shrouded by nature's embrace. Myra felt like the puzzle pieces were finally coming together in her life. Ethan pulled up front and skillfully maneuvered the car to an abrupt halt. As they were on the verge of stepping out, a towering figure approached, utterly engrossed in the tablet clutched within their grasp. “What took you so long E?, I have been waiting to update you on the whereabouts of ......." His voice trails off as he glances up to find Myra smiling. “Hi," she says rather shyly. “You’re here?” “How?” “Umm... Ethan drove me here," she chuckles, enjoying Luca’s bewilderment. Luca engulfs her in the warmest hug she’s ever had. “Welcome home, sister." Myra felt a wave of appreciation for the family she discovered as her thoughts raced through the back of her mind. It seemed as though something had unexpectedly been added to her life. “It feels good to be home, uh...” “Luca, name's Luca Reagan, and you're welcome to Reagan Cottage, or Casa de Reagan as I love to call it.” he gave her a wide smile, flashing his perfect set of white teeth. Myra, in deep thought with her fingers slightly grazing her chin, "Reagan... I love the sound of that." “Would you like a tour of the place?” Luca asks, interrupting her train of thought. She claps her hands in excitement as her dopamine levels escalate. “I would love to!” Nearly as thrilled as she is, Luca takes her arm and ushers her through the massive oakwood doors. They enter a vast hallway with tall ceilings and exquisite marble floors. Picture frames of all the Alphas in the Crescent Moon pack line the well-lit hallway's walls. Myra experienced a force she had never experienced before and instantly realized that her ancestors' spirits were present there. After some time, she and her brothers toured every part of the house and had spirited conversations. Every room held so much history, from the exquisitely designed living room with expensive paintings that the Reagans had passed down through several generations to the anteroom with its most unusual collection of stuffed animals that each Alpha had killed as a rite of passage. The Reagans had expensive taste, Myra thought. She took her time to soak it all in and savor every second; her happiness had no limits. "I wonder what history this place holds." Excitedly, Myra nods as she approaches a grand mahogany door facing her. The door was exquisitely designed, with golden handles and a few lines written directly above the door in a language she didn't understand. The world appeared to slow down as she reached for the door's handle, and time stretched out like a rubber band about to break. A burst of raw energy shot through her as soon as her fingertips touched. Electric tendrils of searing intensity pierced through her body, setting off nerve endings similar to a thousand fireflies on a moonless night. Myra’s vision blurred, and the world around her started to ripple and warp. Her consciousness drifted into a void of whispers and shadows, and then, all at once, darkness erupted all around her.
