Chapter 4

1380 Words
Isabella dashed toward the small forest, a joyful smile spreading across her face. The area was sure to be secluded, where she could transform and soar through the sky alongside the vibrant clouds. She could hardly wait. After a while, she finally reached her destination. Glancing around cautiously one more time, she made sure no one was nearby. Perfect. This place was isolated, with not a single person in sight. Satisfied, she quickly hid her belongings in the bushes and began preparing. Yes! Soon, she’d be flying up there, having fun! At that moment, Isabella’s body began to shrink, gradually changing. Her once pale skin transformed into a covering of black fur, her figure shifting into the shape of a bat. In no time, a tiny bat, no bigger than the size of a palm, had appeared. Hehe! Finally, the transformation was a success. Looking over her black body, Isabella’s eyes gleamed with satisfaction. Compared to normal bats, her transformed size was definitely on the smaller side. Honestly, she was a bit envious of the bigger bats, with their large wings that allowed them to soar effortlessly with just a few flaps. In contrast, she had to flap her wings ten times to match their distance. She often wondered why her bat form was so much smaller than others, but she couldn’t help it—that’s just the way it was. Still, this wasn’t the time to complain; her goal was to fly and enjoy herself. With that thought, Isabella nodded in agreement with herself and prepared to take flight. As the sun set, a tiny bat flew toward the red sky, reaching out to embrace the colorful clouds. If her flying skills were decent, it might have been a beautiful scene. But what if the bat’s flying technique was so terrible that it was laughable? Struggling to flap her wings, Isabella aimed for the red sky, but for some reason, she couldn’t get close to it. After all, she wasn’t born a vampire, so her flying skills weren’t something she’d learned early on. On top of that, she rarely exercised and was lazy about practicing her flying, which made her flight abilities pretty awful. Oh god, this is exhausting! Why did it always seem so easy for birds to fly, yet here she was, finding it unbelievably difficult? Her wings weren’t even smaller than theirs! The tiny bat not only flew low, but her direction was also wobbly. She zigzagged through the air, barely in control. Many birds in flight dodged her erratic movements, quickly veering out of the way to avoid a mid-air collision. Ugh… her arms were so sore! Why did vampires have to transform into bats instead of eagles? Eagles had long, wide wings that could carry them far with just a few flaps, whereas she felt like a poor little hummingbird, furiously flapping her wings just to stay in the air. The more Isabella flew, the more tired she became. Her body sank lower and lower until she was practically struggling to stay afloat just above the ground. Ugh… her arms really ached! Why did flying have to take so much effort? Should she give up? A voice whispered in the back of her mind. No! No way! She would never give up. If she said she was going to fly, then she would fly. If she persevered, she’d definitely succeed. Isabella shook her head vigorously, urging herself to keep trying and fly higher. “Hey! I caught it!” A childish voice suddenly rang out, and the next moment, Isabella’s world was plunged into darkness. Startled, she tumbled to the ground, realizing she was trapped in something tight and confining. What’s happening? Isabella looked around frantically and found herself surrounded by darkness. She flapped her wings a few times, trying to escape, but it was useless. A sharp pain radiated from her chest, and she closed her eyes, forcing herself to stay calm. Panic and fear were the last things she needed—they would only put more strain on her heart. Taking a deep breath, Isabella steadied her emotions, willing herself to remain calm. Slowly, the pain in her chest subsided. She opened her eyes again and carefully inspected her surroundings, finally realizing she was caught in a large black net. Damn it! She’d been captured. “Daddy, Daddy! I caught a big black butterfly!” The child’s innocent voice echoed above her. It seemed the culprit responsible for her crash landing had spoken. Heavy footsteps approached, and Isabella felt herself—no, felt her entire bat form—being lifted into the air. “Wow! My little Morgana is amazing,” the father said as he examined the creature caught in the net, praising his daughter. “Dad, don’t even bother. Just throw that thing away. A creature dumb enough to get caught by a four-year-old with a fishing net isn’t worth keeping. It’s either a low-IQ animal or a brainless one.” Another voice chimed in, this time from a boy who sounded much older. His condescending tone filled the small forest, clearly expressing his low opinion of whatever his sister had caught. Hearing this, Isabella angrily flapped her wings, nearly shouting out loud. You little brat! How dare you call a genius with an IQ of over 180 a brainless i***t? Does this kid even have a brain himself? I’m a bona fide genius! “Daddy, what’s a low-IQ and brainless creature?” the little girl asked innocently. That dumb kid who was just talking, Isabella thought to herself. And not only was he low-IQ and brainless, but he also had the nerve to mistake a genius for a moron! That kid had absolutely no sense of judgment, she fumed silently. “Morgana, don’t pay attention to what your brother says. Little kids shouldn’t learn bad language like that,” the father scolded, casting a warning glance at his son. The boy pouted, clearly not understanding what he had said wrong. “That’s not even that bad. Besides…” Suddenly, his eyes were drawn to the creature struggling inside the net. “Huh? Dad, what exactly did Morgana catch? Why is there something black wriggling around in there?” “I don’t know! Whatever it is, it’s been moving nonstop since she caught it. I can’t seem to hold it still. Oh, right, Jack! Could you help your dad hold this part—yes, right there—grab it tightly.” This is a k********g! An outright k********g! Isabella’s eyes burned red with anger, but she didn’t dare make a sound. If she spoke up, she might scare the family. Worse, they’d discover that a bat could speak human language, and she might end up being taken away for experiments. But… could she really stay silent? She was about to be taken home as their pet! My goodness, will someone please save me? Isabella cried out in her mind while struggling harder to free herself from the family’s clutches. Soon, the little girl joined in, helping with the “capture operation.” Seeing that she was about to be subdued, Isabella fought even more fiercely. Shit! k********g and restraining someone’s freedom were definitely illegal. And since there were three of them, this was definitely a case of aggravated assault! As Isabella wrestled with her thoughts, she wasn’t paying attention and ended up getting firmly trapped by the family. “Great! We finally caught it,” the father said with satisfaction. “Jack, Morgana, make sure to hold on tight and don’t let go. Let me take a closer look at this… Huh? It’s a bat! Morgana, you actually caught a bat.” “A bat? But bats are supposed to fly in the sky, right? Why was it flying so low to the ground that Morgana could catch it?” The boy’s voice grew more certain that they had indeed captured a low-IQ creature. You little brat! You’re definitely asking for a beating. Isabella glared at the boy, wishing she could get out and give him a piece of her mind. “Alright, Jack, you and Morgana wait here for a moment while Daddy goes to get a cage.” A cage? They’re planning to put me in a cage?
