Chapter Five Angel The waiting room at the VA hospital was a drab gray color, the walls made from concrete blocks. I rubbed my pant’s legs down with my hands, hating how nervous I was. It wasn’t likely that I’d get bad news, but even the thought of undergoing radiation or chemo terrified me. You know what else frightened me? My next-door neighbor. Landon was the only man I could recall who had ever rebuffed my advances. And it wasn’t cooling me down. It was making me sizzle, and I hated feeling so out of control.
